These competitions are offered annually. UIC COP students are encouraged to participate.

UIC COP Competitions

Learn about how you can:

EARN (3) credit hours by Jan 2015
COLLABORATE with fellow students (P1-P4)
DEVELOP technical and communication skills
NETWORK with faculty and pharmacists in the field

Must be a current AMCP member to participate. Each team must consist of four (4) members (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Fall 2014 Meetings: Every Thursday @12:30 PM in Rm 134-2 unless otherwise noted.

The competition is designed to:

  • reflect changes that are occurring in practice
  • to promote and encourage further professional development of the student pharmacist
  • to reinforce the role of the pharmacist as a health care provider and educator

The competition will be held in the 2North counseling rooms this Fall. 

Students can sign up for one 15 minute time slot, on the Google document sent out. Please only sign up if you are sure you would like to compete, and remove your name if you do change your mind so that we have an accurate count.  If all the slots fill up, we can add more.

Please email the APhA Professional Chair if you would like to compete but the times do not work for you. We may be able to accommodate a few students earlier or later in the day. 

The top two (2) students will compete at the IPhA Conference.

Business Plan Competitions 1.2

It is open to undergraduate and graduate students from any of the UIC colleges. Students are encouraged to participate to win numerous prizes to help fund their business venture. Students may compete with business ideas based either on their own ideas and technologies or those developed by faculty and alumni.

Workshops, one-on-one consulting and mentors will be provided throughout the course of the semester to help all students develop their ideas into sound business plans. Join us for an informational meeting to learn what is expected through the semester up until competition day.

Target Student Scholarship 

Target Corporation will recognize a talented team of Pharmacy students who engage a 'real world' problem with a formal business presentation. Each team will be given a month to develop a formal presentation tackling Target’s team project question. Each team may consist up to four (4) members.

Presentation must include a SWOT analysis (Internal: Strengths/Weaknesses, External: Opportunities/Threats) of the current situation Target faces in the pharmaceutical market, as well as a second SWOT analysis based upon implementation of the proposal. 

Past Target team project questions:

  • “With the expansion of immunizations at the retail pharmacy setting, how will Target market and deliver immunizations (allowable in the state of Illinois) in your community?” (2013)
  • "How might Target position itself as the one stop shop for guest's health and wellness wants/needs?" (2012)

Each member of the winning team will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be presented at the annual Honors Convocation in the spring.

Business Plan Competitions 2.2

The goal of the Business Plan Competition is to motivate pharmacy students to create the blueprint necessary for buying an existing independent community pharmacy or to develop a new pharmacy. 

Lecture series regarding the Competition will take place on Thursdays at 12:30 during the Spring semester. (Dates TBA)

Must be a current NCPA member to participate. Each team may consist of up to four (4) members.

A monetary prize will be awarded to the three finalist teams. The team members and team advisor will also receive complimentary registration, travel and lodging to the NCPA convention.

Jewel-Osco Community Pharmacy Business Scholarship Award Contest

Students will develop a pharmacy service that will promote patient care in a community pharmacy setting that will coordinate with the current healthcare system and generate revenue for a community pharmacy

Must be a pharmacy student in one of the last three years of pharmacy school (P2 - P4) with a GPA of a ‘B’ or higher.

A $2,500 scholarship award will be awarded to four (4) selected students.

IPhA Student Business Plan Competition 

The primary goal of this competition is to allow students to create a fluid and comprehensive business plan. Any ideas/concepts supporting and enhancing the practice of pharmacy would be considered a valid entry for the purposes of this competition. This can include, but is not limited to, the purchase of an existing community pharmacy or consulting business, establishing a new community pharmacy, or developing a new pharmacy/pharmacist-centered patient care service.

Must be a current member of IPhA or MPA to participate. Each team may have up to five (5) members.

Two (2) teams from each campus (Chicago and Rockford) may submit a plan for the competition.
