My research uses GIS and remote sensing to analyze changes in vegetation dynamics across a South African savanna landscape. There have been many management modifications in the past 3 decades within the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere Reserve. In the mid-90’s, the private reserves adjacent to Kruger National Park’s western boundary removed their fences, creating a continuous natural landscape. I am interested in detecting how the ecosystems responded to this transformation on various spatial scales. I hope the results will assist future decision-making within the conservation planning process.
