Sustainable Resource Center OPEN HOUSE

Date/Time: June 5, 2015 from 3-5 PM
Location: 160 Kerckhoff Hall

This year, SRC Directors have been working to make the Sustainable Resource Center a place graduate students can visit to learn about sustainability & a hub for sustainability-related groups to meet and discuss sustainability events/projects.
Before the school year ends, we invite you to visit the center to learn about SRC resources, check out or renovations, get inspired to have a sustainable summer, and visit the SRC again in fall quarter!
We will have some snacks and sustainable school supplies for giveaways!

Dinner at Bruin Plate for Meatless Monday!

Monday 5/18/15 from 5-8 PM
What: Join us at the the Bruin Plate dining hall for some delicious foods and to hear from Emma Sorrell, Sustainability Manager for Housing & Hospitality Services!

Details: Come join the GSA Sustainable Resource Center and fellow grad students for a FREE dinner up on the residential hill at Bruin Plate for "Green Mondays"- a pilot program that removes meat from the menu. Check out the Daily Bruin article here!

The event is open 5 PM- 8 PM on May 18th, but space is limited (and on a first come, first serve basis). We can only accommodate 30 grad students so we encourage you to come in earlier as opposed to later!


***RSVP is required & we ask that you please double check your schedule before signing up so that we may accommodate as many grad students as possible. We will provide the front desk with a list of the RSVPs for check-in. After the check-in, you will be directed to a room where you will join your fellow grads for a tasty meal!***

River ecosystems have become some of the most endan­gered places on Earth. Growing human populations, as well as agriculture and industry, are all placing increasing demands on limited water supplies while climate change is exacerbating drought and reducing snow fall conditions. Steve Fleischli, Director and of the Water Program at the NRDC, and hydrologist Dennis Lettenmaier, UCLA Professor of Geography, will speak on the threats to the world’s rivers and what we can do to protect them.

Green Screens Film Festival 2015!
April 21 - 24, 2015 at the James Bridges Theater at UCLA! (See MAP)
April 22 - 24: Doors open at 7 PM & screenings begin at 7:30 PM

We are excited to bring you the 2nd annual Green Screens Film Festival, UCLA's first student-initiated and student-run environmental film festival! This year's films focus on recycling, e-waste, biodiversity, and urban agriculture! Come and learn something new about these important environment/sustainability issues that affect all of us!

This event is FREE and OPEN TO ALL who wish to attend! Bring your friends :)

SURVEY: UCLA Environment and Sustainability Task Force Report Draft

The GSA Sustainable Resource Center asks you to take 1 minute to answer our survey which is designed to gather graduate student feedback on the UCLA Environment and Sustainability Task Force Draft Report. This important report outlines recommendations for both short term and long term sustainability at UCLA. The survey results will help us identify the recommendations from the report that graduate students support. Student input is very powerful! 

1) THE GSA ELECTION The election for the 2015-16 GSA Cabinet will begin on Tuesday April 21st at 12 pm and last until noon the following Monday. A representative vote is extremely important for the success of the GSA and its affiliates. Please donate five to seven minutes of your time to Graduate Student organization and governance. As an incentive, every 50th voter will win a free meal at a UCLA restaurant.

E3, SRC, USAC SWC and ASUCLA are proud to present the Farmers Market at UCLA! Stop by the market in Bruin Plaza on Wednesday, February 25th (Week 8) to support local and responsible farmers in the most delicious and healthy way possible!
Expect to see some delicious seasonal produce, nut products and dried fruits, as well as some student performances!
E3 will also be serving free Fair Trade coffee and collecting e-waste for recycling.

Please join us to hear how environment and sustainability are incorporated into diverse fields such as law, urban planning, and engineering during the panel. Following the panel, we will have a mixer with fun networking activities and prizes! Food will be provided!

The Leaders in Sustainability (LiS) certificate program offered by UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability is open to all UCLA graduate students. The program "aims to provide a mechanism for graduate students at UCLA to pursue their interests in sustainability and collaborate with students from different fields." UCLA's 2nd Annual Environmental Film Festival, Coming this Spring!

UPDATE: We are currently confirming films and planning some fun pre-film events!

UCLA's very first graduate student created and run Green Screens Film Festival was last year, and we are continuing the tradition again this year! We are currently looking for volunteers to to serve on the UCLA Environment Sustainability Film Festival Committee. We will need help with a variety of tasks. Being a part of an environmental film festival is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the film industry and environmental education, leave your mark on the UCLA campus, network and create some tangible change. Electronic Waste Recycling Drop-off at the Sustainable Resource Center

Drop off your e-waste at the Sustainable Resource Center- Kerckhoff 160. We accept old cell phones, computers, batteries, ink cartridges and more. Email is with questions and arrange a time for drop off! 

Rent a bicycle for the quarter!

Due to a SRC grant, with support from UCLA Transportation and UCLA Recreation, starting Summer Quarter 2012 (this summer), graduate students can now rent a bicycle too from the UCLA Bike Library. $45 gets you a 8-speed bike, helmet, lock, and lights for the entire quarter. Bikes are rented on a first-come, first-serve basis, and after the first week of each quarter, any unused graduate student bikes will be released into the general queue for any student to rent out. Are you interested in growing your own food, such as fava beans, beets, spinach, lettuce, kale, chard, onions, garlic, leeks? Then join the on campus community garden located at the Sunset Recreation Center !Whether it is coming to the garden once a week to drop off compost, watering weekly or joining the group for gardening each Sunday from 12pm-sunset (for as little or long as you like), we look forward to welcoming anyone interested in working together on creating a beautiful garden at UCLA.
