Day Break is an adult day care program offered by Easter Seals Florida at the Elinor & T. William Miller, Jr. Center serving adults over 18 years of age, with disabilities and/or special needs, as well as older adults and adults with Alzheimer’s or other dementia related disorders. Other conditions may include stroke recovery, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and mental illness.

Day Break is open Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 5:30pm, to allow family members and caregivers to continue working in the community knowing their loved one is in a safe, stimulating environment during the day.

What do clients do at Day Break?
Participants enjoy educational and social activities that focus on five areas: Cognition, Gross Motor Skills, Fine Motor Skills, Socialization and Health & Wellness. Daily activities may include current events discussions, arts and craft projects, poetry, cultural events, gardening, outdoor walks and simple exercises, music therapy, intergenerational activities, dancing, pet therapy and health education.

Day Break welcomes volunteers at the Miller Center to interact with clients and to assist with playing bingo, reading stories, karaoke, creating arts & crafts with clients, and leading activity sessions (i.e. fitness, current events, baking, life skills, etc…).

IMPORTANT:  ALL volunteers will be required to complete and sign an Easter Seals volunteer packet before beginning their service-learning hours; the packet covers general volunteer information, dress code policy, privacy requirements, etc.  Also, in order to volunteer more than 20 hours in a single month, you must submit to a screening/background check by Easter Seals. Volunteering fewer than 20 hours per month does not require screening.
