- Candidates for cadet in the LEOTC program are screened as if applying for a sworn Deputy Sheriff position.
- Cadets in the LEOTC program must fulfill minimum weekly requirements (10 hours) for BOTH SEMESTERS (fall and spring) in various divisions and units to gain a “rounded out” knowledge of how the agency operates.
- Cadets must maintain a satisfactory grade point average for completion of their Bachelor’s degree.
- Cadets must successfully complete all screening examinations, training, orientation sessions, internship hours, and receive a satisfactory rating to be considered for sponsorship to attend the Criminal Justice Institute.
Students in the LEOTC program are able to experience and observe many different facets of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. During the first semester, students rotate to different assignments, including patrol, investigations, communications, aviation (pictured above), specialized patrol, evidence, and many other departments/divisions within the agency. During the second semester, students are assigned to one area within the agency.
