Food Pantry Needs Sugar in May

posted May 12, 2017, 3:24 PM by BCC Websites

Bountiful Community Food Pantry, May is Sugar!

May comes with the promise of sunshine and outdoor activities. Holiday celebrations in the park or backyard. The sweet smells of cookies or pies or cobbler baking.  Let's share that blessing with others this month by bringing in sugar for the pantry.  Let's see if we can collect 50, 4 lb. packages by May 28.

Maundy Thursday Service, Thursday April 13, 7:00 Danforth Chapel

posted Apr 12, 2017, 6:00 PM by BCC Websites

The Maundy Thursday Service is Thursday, April 13, 7:00 pm in the Danforth Chapel. The word “Maundy” is rooted in the Latin word “mandatum” which means: “to give, to entrust, to order.” According to John’s gospel, on the night of the last supper, Jesus gives his disciples a commandment: “that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34). Our Maundy Thursday service will follow the tradition of a “Tenebrae” service. “Tenebrae” means “shadows” or “darkness” in Latin. Through Scripture readings we intentionally recall 12 important moments in the story of Jesus' betrayal, desertion, and ultimately his crucifixion. Each moment is powerfully noted with the extinguishing of a candle as the service ends in darkness. This service is considered one of the most powerful of the church year. We hope to have at least 8 participants who will serve as readers. If you will be attending the service and are willing to be a reader, please sign-up in advance and plan to arrive by 6:45 pm.

April is Vegetable Oil Month at the Food Pantry

April – Vegetable Oil

If we had lived in ancient Israel, olives and their oil would have been the most basic of our foods. Eaten alone or with bread, this is the food ordinary people would have consumed several times a day. Oil, now of various kinds, is still a basic source of calories for many people in much of the world. Even here in Utah! Yet few people think to donate it to the Food Pantry. In April, let’s see if we can’t collect 40 bottles of oil for our sisters and brothers served by the Pantry!

“For I was hungry, and you gave me food…” (Mt. 25:35).

One of the most-needed items at the Food Pantry is mayonnaise … but not so many donators think to put it in their baskets.  In March, let’s see if we can’t collect 50 jars of mayo for our donation to the Pantry!

“For I was hungry, and you gave me food…” (Mt. 25:35).

Bountiful Community Food Pantry           February – Ketchup Month!

The story of the original St. Valentine: in the 3rd century, this humble and faithful man was arrested for converting people to Christianity.  In one legend, the jailer’s blind daughter brought him food; later, her sight was miraculously restored.  It is told that she also brought a sauce made of tomatoes because the prison food was so bad, and to prevent scurvy.  In the spirit of things that are red, loving, and healthy, we’re going to collect ketchup for the Food Pantry this month.  Shall we try for 75 bottles?

There is a  fundraising dinner at the UCC Bountiful Community Church, 150 N 400 East in Bountiful, will introduce Utahans' to a delicious variety of Middle Eastern flavors in a family style buffet for dinein or takeout. Minimum suggested donations are $15/adult, $10/child age 612, free for children age 5 and under. Please RSVP at https://jcudinner.eventbrite.com before all of the meals are reserved.     Feb. 25, 5:30 - 8pm
