On December 15, 1976, the Argo Merchant ran aground near Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. The tanker had approximately 28,000 tons of Venezuelan No. 6 fuel oil and cutter stock. Meanwhile, a storm broke out which made cleanup efforts even more difficult.
