The new Weston U3A Committee members are listed on the Committee Page.

GROUPS RE-OPENING

The government lifted all legal enforcable Covid restrictions on 1st February 2022 apart from the need to self-isolate if requested by NHS Track and Trace.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do

Some Groups have already re-formed and met physically. All Groups are encouraged to restart. Group Leaders should endeavour to encourage their members to take all reasonable and common sense steps to ensure the safety of themselves and others against possible Covid infection.

If Groups previously met in hired halls/accommodation, then Group Leaders should establish the protocols required by the landlords of those premises. Some halls have imposed restrictions, others have not, and have opened as they did prior to Covid. Weston U3A will support the hire of halls if the Group using the hall has sufficient membership to cover 70% of the hire charge. The new Weston U3A attendance fee for meetings in hired halls will, from 6th September 2021, be £2.00 per member, tea / coffee will be an extra charge

Some sensible measures to ensure the safety of each other, none of which are legally required

  • Masks are optional, but each member should consider the views and needs of others

  • Hand Gel should be carried by members and/or provided by Group Leaders

  • Consider social distancing of at least 1 metre when arranging seating

  • Consider the antiseptic wiping of tables before a meeting

  • Members should only attend meetings if in receipt of two Covid vaccinations

  • Members may wish to conduct their own Lateral Flow Tests before attending meetings to ensure the safety of others
https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests Or obtainable from any Pharmacy

  • Members may wish to bring their own refreshments, or at least their own drinking vessel

  • Group Leaders may wish to obtain and provide a printed QR code from the government website to assist Track and Trace
    https://www.gov.uk/create-coronavirus-qr-poster

  • BUT WHAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN REQUIRED pre Covid and for the future, was and is, that a Register of names, and membership numbers of all members attending meetings held in hired premises. This is because of the accounting exercise required by Weston U3A. These registers should be forwarded to the Weston U3A treasurer on a monthly basis - treasurer.wsm.u3a@gmail.com

SPANISH GROUP HELPER NEEDED Archived 10/2/17

We have an active and friendly group, currently meeting on a Monday morning from 10 to 12 at the Friends Meeting House, and have recently increased our numbers due to the efforts of 2 of our members who have started a beginners’ group. This will finish in July with the beginners- being beginners no longer- having completed Book 2 of the BBC course and joining in with the main group.

Ken, who has taken the language sessions for many years, is leaving us at the end of the summer, due to family commitments, and unless we can find someone to lead the language sessions, we will have to drop our frequency from weekly to fortnightly, when we will continue to hold conversation sessions. So this is a plea for anyone with a good knowledge of Spanish to contact groups.wsm.u3a@gmail.com if you are interested.

We really want to hear from you if you or anyone you know may be interested. You would not have to do it every week but it would be helpful if it could be a minimum of once a month. We are always ready to try to swap weeks for planned holidays.
