Annual General Meeting – Tytherton Village Hall - 11 April 2013

Thirty-three people attended this year compared to 8 people last year – a welcome sight and indicative of the interest and support for the main topic of the evening the ‘Future of the Village Hall’.

The evening began with agreeing the minutes from the previous year’s AGM followed by a report from the Chairperson, Mary Anne Bailey, who gave a historical perspective to the evening by reminding us all of how the Hall came into being in 1924 as a Working Men’s club with weekly Jazz evenings and a ‘lady pianist’ each night!. The Treasurer, John Hayter, reported that the Hall had improved its financial position for 2012 and expressed his belief that this provided a solid foundation for future financial needs. Lastly the Secretary, Denise Cawley, summarised the events held over 2012 with the highlight being the Diamond Jubilee Street Party. The variety of activities demonstrated the importance of this amenity for the immediate village and for the wider community through providing facilities for local groups, the Calne Young Farmers, the WI and the Tytherton Tigers Skittles Team as well as for families.

The remainder of the evening was devoted to the future of the Hall as it was clear that the lease would not be renewed in 2016. A report was presented outlining the various options with the recommendation that a new site be found and money raised to build a new village hall.

The current and future governance of the Hall was discussed with the recommendation that the Hall should become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) as soon as possible. Three resolutions were presented relating to the recommendations; all were passed unanimously. An AGM for the new charity will be held as soon as possible after it has been registered with the Charity Commission, probably in July. The evening concluded with a discussion around sites and the opportunity to comment on possible locations as well as some delicious nibbles and drinks!
