At Travis World Language Academy, we value innovative thought. So we were thrilled to recently discover that we were selected to receive a Dart Foundation Grant for $3,890! Our campus is using the funds to purchase a 3D printer.

More about the Dart Foundation and the 3D printer below.

Dart Foundation

The Dart Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1984 by William A. and Claire T. Dart. The foundation supports communities that are home to the Dart Container Corporation's production facilities and sales headquarters.

The mission of the Dart Foundation is to advance and encourage youth education, primarily in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. The Dart Foundation considers requests from public schools for projects that support K-12 public education, with an emphasis on STEM.

Interested schools are invited to visit the Dart Foundation website at www.dartfoundation.org and go to the “Grants” page to learn more, register, and apply online using the abbreviated grant application, as most school grants are awarded in the $2,000 and $5,000 range.

MakerBot 3D Printer

What is 3D printing? 3D Printing.com describes it this way. 3D printing, or additive manufacturing, is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file.

The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the entire object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross-section of the eventual object.
