  12. A1. Teachers went back yesterday for 3 days of training. Students come bright and early on Monday! #OK2Ask
  13. @AnthonyCantorEJ Great question Anthony! #OK2Ask I think you hit the nail on the head that tech should be integrated throughout and not a separate "subject."
  14. @HowlingMonkey2 WOW! That is very early. Do they go year-round or just start back in early August each year? We end beg of Jun and go back mid Aug. #OK2Ask
  15. Q2: How many years have you been teaching? What is one thing that you have learned about the start of the year? #OK2Ask https://t.co/BHJjKCCAVo

  16. @SFLOK2Ask My students will be returning to school on September 5th day after Labor Day.
  17. #OK2Ask A2. I have been in the education field for 22 years. I started teaching 18 years ago and moved to content manager 10 years ago.
  18. @SFLOK2Ask I taught as a #TA and #instructor at the #university level for over 10 years. Essential to establish good habits/practices at start of year.
  19. A2cont. #OK2Ask One thing that I have learned is to embrace it! I haven't had my own classroom for 11 years and I miss it each August!
  20. Q3 The article states several Back to School trends. Take a look. Do you notice any of these in your school? https://t.co/edeeLr2a5m #OK2Ask https://t.co/Ud4zbWIgWY

  21. A2: I have been in education for 22 years as well! Organized chaos, a fresh start, and an opportunity to meet fab new kids! #OK2Ask
  22. A3. I WISH our secondary schools started later. Our elementary starts at 8:55, but secondary is 7:40. Way too early for teens #OK2Ask
  23. @HowlingMonkey2 #OK2Ask I LOVE organized chaos :) And of course a fresh start is always good.
  24. a2: Have been a teacher for 25 years. Have been providing PD for teachers for 30 years #OK2Ask
  25. A3 cont. Our schools still have lockers, how about you? I haven't noticed this trend in our area. Students may not carry backpacks. #OK2Ask
  26. A2: I have been teaching for 28 years. I also have provided PD for teachers the last 10 years. #OK2Ask
  27. A3: Article mentions less locker space -- I connection to big trend - Redesigned learning spaces & innovative learning environments #OK2Ask
  28. A2: You need to start organized or you will never make it #Ok2Ask
  29. A3: my school still has lockers and no locks! Students are not allowed to carry backpacks but have a school issued laptop bag. #OK2Ask
  30. Q4 - What do you look forward to the MOST at the start of the new year? #OK2Ask https://t.co/FanKB8hsYj
Q4 - What do you look forward to the MOST at the start of the new year? #OK2Ask pic.twitter.com/FanKB8hsYj
  31. @hurricanemaine Hey Louise! Glad that you could join us #OK2Ask. I am just entering year 11 of providing PD.
  32. A4. I LOVE organizing the classroom and the grade books and the lesson plan tools. Of course I like seeing the kids too ;) #OK2Ask
  33. A3: My school does not have gourmet lunch despite vegetarians in school and offers free lunches over the summer. #OK2Ask
  34. @HowlingMonkey2 #OK2Ask Yes! I loved the laptop charger stations instead of locker idea! Our local schools still have lockers, but do flexible seating
  35. @SFLOK2Ask This was important for my own habits as an educator as well as setting expectations for my students #OK2Ask.
  36. A3: Many extracurriculars during the school day and even then poor students rarely participate . #OK2Ask
  37. @moreruckus2 VERY true! And it sets a good example to your students on the importance of being organized. If we aren't, we can't expect students #OK2Ask
  38. @hurricanemaine Same here #OK2Ask. I have noticed a lot more flexible seating though, that is good.
  39. A4: I also look forward to that feeling of infinite possibilities #OK2Ask
  40. a4: Love the idea of introducing teachers to new tools #OK2Ask
  41. @hurricanemaine #OK2Ask - Our lunches have significantly changed in the past 5 years. They do offer many healthy options and not much "junk."
  42. @hurricanemaine So you are saying the poorer students choose not to participate or can't? #OK2Ask
  43. A5. If I am honest, it is setting the alarm so early again! #OK2Ask
  44. A4: I look forward to how excited students get when they have learned something new or mastered a tough concept. #OK2Ask
  45. @SFLOK2Ask A4 Trying new tweaks to the material and to my teaching: new areas of focus, new #edtech, new assignments to build different skills #OK2Ask
  46. @HowlingMonkey2 #OK2Ask - And of course organizing the new classroom. SO many fun ways to do that now :)
  47. @MrsMHenning I believe many of them choose not to get involved in the school culture despite all the possibilities #OK2Ask
  48. @hurricanemaine #OK2Ask Ah yes that lovely "ah ha" moment. There is nothing like that look.
  49. A6 cont. Another challenge for me was always getting the new students into the class routine and rules. Starting all over... #OK2Ask
  50. @AnthonyCantorEJ @SFLOK2Ask Awesome! Sounds like you are great at differentiating and personalizing to meet your students' needs! #Ok2ask
  51. A5: Pretesting and new division initiatives required with little to no training/input/resources #OK2Ask
  52. @hurricanemaine That is sad. How do you reach them? Do you think they feel they won't fit in? I often wonder how we can help. #OK2Ask
  53. @HowlingMonkey2 Oh Karen, I didn't even think about that. SO TRUE! Here is the new science curriculum - - have at it! #OK2Ask
  54. @SFLOK2Ask A5-anticipating problems, from #plagiarism to student frustration with uni-level marks/expectations. But these are #OK2ASk 1/2
  55. A6: Challenge to get them to think and complete different work than they're used to. Many are successful at "school". Change is hard #OK2Ask
  56. @moreruckus2 #OK2Ask Ah yes, the lovely required inservice days! Our school has improved with more flexible options - personalized PD
  57. @MrsMHenning Yup - teachers can be so powerful when armed with the proper tools and support #OK2Ask
  58. Q6. What is your favorite activity to do with your students during the first week of school? #OK2Ask https://t.co/ekYeOLx8fI
Q6. What is your favorite activity to do with your students during the first week of school? #OK2Ask pic.twitter.com/ekYeOLx8fI
  59. @SFLOK2Ask A5 (cont'd) opportunities and #teachablemoments. I would try to revise syllabus/introductory lectures based on last year's exp. #OK2Ask 2/2
  60. @AnthonyCantorEJ @SFLOK2Ask #OK2Ask You bring up a good point! There are the anticipated problems, that we wish we didn't have to worry about - but we need to prepare
  61. @hurricanemaine #OK2Ask - I can imagine your kids at first are timid to try your approach. But once they get started, I bet they learn more than ever!
  62. @MrsMHenning @SFLOK2Ask Thank you! I'm full time with @EssayJack now, no longer in classroom, but try to bring those same commitments to my work in #edtech #OK2Ask
  63. A6cont. Another thing I love to do is read to the class. This list is great! ReadAlouds for Back to School  http://teachersfirst.com/exclusives/moreless/librarian/bts_start.cfm  #OK2Ask
  64. @HowlingMonkey2 Yes I agree - personalize PD so teachers can learn and personal for their own students. Teach by example #OK2Ask
  65. @AnthonyCantorEJ @SFLOK2Ask @EssayJack #OK2Ask Well it sounds like you are still an educator, just not in a classroom. You are now teaching the educators - yes?
  66. @MrsMHenning @voicethread It's also a great way to see what they know about creating with technology #OK2Ask
  67. A8. My FAVORITE is @todoist. I like the simplicity of the tool - not a lot of "glitz." It also works on all devices (app and web) #OK2Ask
  68. @HowlingMonkey2 Awesome Karen! Thanks for sharing. I am saving these to check out later tonight. I am not in the classroom, but still teaching :) #OK2Ask
  69. @moreruckus2 @voicethread I hadn't even thought about it in that way, but you are absolutely correct. #OK2Ask
  70. A7 cont. Use @SignUpGenius to save time and organize. Share this tool at Back to School Night with families! #OK2Ask
  71. A8. @GoogleKeep is another favorite that is more visually appealing and has a few additional features. #OK2Ask
  72. A7 cont. I love Doodles -  https://beta.doodle.com  for scheduling meetings, conferences, and more. #OK2Ask
  73. A7: Things have gotten so much better since I've left the classroom! I love learning "nooks" that are colorful and inviting #Ok2Ask
  74. A7: I use Microsoft Forms for student and parent surveys #OK2Ask
  75. @HowlingMonkey2 @MicrosoftEDU #OK2Ask This does not surprise me Karen :) And the more I learn OneNote, I tend to agree!
  76.  https://www.classtools.net/random-name-picker/  Check this out for help organizing names for groups, classroom job assignments, or choosing a student. #OK2Ask
  77. @SFLOK2Ask A6-I taught history. Was fun to ask them what they thought the point of studying history was, then compare w/end of year. #OK2Ask
  78. A7: I like to use Google Keep and bring it into Google Docs. Especially helpful for frequent comments you make on assignments. #OK2Ask
  79. @Katy_Garvey #OK2Ask - yes, I think this helps to personalize learning for students and makes such a difference - environment!
  80.  http://classroom.4teachers.org  A7 - use this to organize your classroom (physically) #OK2Ask. Classroom Architect is the best!
  81. @HowlingMonkey2 #OK2Ask - I probably don't need to ask, but you prefer Microsoft Forms to Google Forms? What makes them better?
  82. @moreruckus2 @trello I tried to make the switch, but ended up back at @todoist #OK2Ask. They each are great tools.
  83. @AnthonyCantorEJ @SFLOK2Ask #OK2Ask - Ah Anthony, I knew I liked your way of thinking. You also taught my favorite subject. SO much cool tech integrate with history!
  84. @hurricanemaine I do like Keep also. It is more visual and seems to have a lot of additional options compared to some other tools #OK2Ask
  85. @Katy_Garvey #OK2Ask - Yes, @SignUpGenius is a great one. I shared that as a must have at the start! Couldn't agree more Katy.
  86. @MrsMHenning @SFLOK2Ask Thanks! Totally agree re: tech and history. I created an @EssayJack template for #history #researchessay. Wish I had it when I was teaching!
  87. @SFLOK2Ask I dread the team-building games during pre-week 😬But then I always end up laughing & making memories that take me thru rough days later 👍
  88. Hi @trekinfl welcome to #OK2Ask. I agree. I always dreaded those games too and ended up enjoying them.
  89. @MrsMHenning MSFT Forms had some catching up to do...they are flying...new things all the time - here is a great post  https://www.tcea.org/blog/forms-smackdown/  #OK2Ask
  90. @HowlingMonkey2 Thank you for sharing. I think it is helpful to know the different options and I do want to learn the differences. #OK2Ask

  92. A9. Honestly, I have seen ALL of these in our local schools. Now neighboring districts, I have not seen all #OK2Ask
  93. YES @AnthonyCantorEJ #OK2Ask. I often think WHY wasn't this out when I was teaching? SO many amazing tools. But now we can teach others.
  94. A9: Districts in my area are working towards personalized learning. Increased student engagement and ownership! #OK2Ask
  95. @MrsMHenning #OK2Ask This is basically the story of @EssayJack. Our CEO @DoctorLindy created the #edtech tool she wished she had in her classroom!
  96. #OK2Ask I am very proud of our local schools and the trend of Global Competence. Our schools are well over 50% minority, as stated.
  97. A9. At the elem level I have seen a trend towards Global Competence the most while secondary I would say Multimedia Teaching. #OK2Ask
  98. @SFLOK2Ask I use a good old paper roster on a clipboard to make notes about attend. behavior, participation. I can spot patterns quickly. #OK2Ask
  99. @Katy_Garvey Do you notice the same trends at different levels? #Ok2Ask - I definitely see a difference. Of course it all depends on the teachers!
  100. @trekinfl @SFLOK2Ask Do you keep the paper/clipboard all year? Or do you move to a tech tool? Which way do you find easier? #OK2Ask
  101. @HowlingMonkey2 Thanks Karen! Loving these articles that you are sharing. I will be up reading tonight. #OK2Ask

  104. @SFLOK2Ask A10-Remember: you may reach your students even if it doesn't look that way. Sometimes something you said clicks for them years later #OK2Ask
