Announcements and Volunteer Opportunities

NHS is an academic honor society with a focus on service and leadershipMembers are required to attend monthly meetings, participate in club sponsored volunteer events, and to complete 10 hours of individual volunteer work per semester. 
To be eligible to apply you must:
  • be a junior (as of fall 2013) or senior
  • have a current GPA of 3.75
  • be enrolled in at least 6 classes per semester
  • be committed to helping the community through service

All those interested in joining NHS for the 2014-2015 school year should plan on attending an informational meeting to be held at the beginning of school next year. Make sure to listen for announcements for the date and time of the meeting. 
Service Opportunities

TVHS Environmental Club
Seeking students to help with recycling efforts at Thompson Valley.  All volunteers would have to attend a short training in early November.  Volunteer work will be done during school hours, primarily at lunch so this is an excellent opportunity for students who have busy schedules.  Please see Ms. Shupe if interested.

This is a local organization aimed at bringing a wide variety of services to students in the Thompson School District.  For more information visit their website at
H.E.L.P International
Respond to major disasters, as well as, the development of depressed areas by providing medical supplies and equipment and humanitarian aid. This organization need volunteers for Administrative/Office work (mailings, data entry, clean-up, etc.), warehouse work (sorting, packing, loading containers, staging shipments, unloading, pick-ups, deliveries, forklift, etc.), repairs (toys, bicycles, small appliances, computers, etc.), fundraising, and newsletter production.

Free Tutor Center of Loveland
Work with children K-12 on basic or more complex academic skills. Spend a hour with a student who needs a little extra help on school work and watch them excel in the coming weeks.

House of Neighborly Service
Volunteers are always needed especially in the food program and clothing room. Help sort and categorize incoming donations or prepare and distribute donations to people in need.

Inclement Weather Shelter
House of Neighborly Service in collaboration with many community partners such as the local Churches, City of Loveland, United Way and individual donors provide emergency shelter during inclement weather. When the day temperatures fall below 40 degrees and night temperatures fall below 20. This is a program operated primarily by volunteers from the community and funds provide food and supplies as available.

Westridge Therapy Horseback Riding
This place knows how to treat their volunteers. You will receive a free t-shirt for volunteering and a letter of recommendation if needed. If you volunteer for an hour, you yourself get an hour of riding time! Help provide therapeutic riding to the mentally, physically, or emotionally disabled. Volunteers are extremely needed!
