The websites listed below were shared on the ProLiteracy Connect List Serve group in response to a request for materials to use when tutoring ESL learners one-on-one. 

General ESL Sites

365 ESL Short Stories for Intermediate Learners 

This a4esl.org site has quizzes, tests, exercises and puzzles to help you learn English as a Second Language (ESL). This project of The Internet TESL Journal has thousands of contributions by many teachers. 

The Arizona Association for Lifelong Learning has an excellent  list of links for ESL learners.

"Beginning ESOL Learners' Advice to their Teachers" Focus on Basics Volume 5, Issue A.

Dave's ESL Cafe has sections of stuff for teachers, stuff for students, and stuff for everyone!

ELL-U was a free professional development network for ESOL practitioners and the resources developed are still available. Tutors working with English Language Learners (ELL), or English as a Second Language (ESL) Learners, can access a variety of free resources through ELL-U

English Idioms 4 You, features Today's Idiom and an Idiom Quiz of the Day.

EnglishPage.com offers free online English lessons and ESL/EFL Resources. There are also several tutorials featuring interactive activities for learners. 

ESL Discussions.com - Conversations on numerous topics, as well as lesson plans 

ESL Gold, Free English teaching and learning resources 

ESL Home welcomes students and teachers to the internet world of ESL learning. 

ESL Independent Study Lab 

This ESL POD site has podcasts for ESL learners to listen to and learn English on topic specific podcasts.

ESL-Library.com has been recommended as a good resource for tutors working with adult ESL learners.

Literacy Council of Kitsap has a page of ESL resources.

The Media Library of Teaching Skills (MLoTS) has several ESL and ESOL teaching/tutoring videos available for viewing. 

Newsela is current news site that has been recommended for tutors of ESL learners.

This North Carolina site has a virtual library of ESL lesson plans.

This Reading Skills for Today's Adults page has graded reading selections for adult English language learners.

Read the Words reads the words that you type into a text box.
