Wellness Plan
 Suggested supplementation and Diets

I recommend the following supplements from a reputable source:

1.  Multiple vitamin. (The higher quality ones will have 200 micrograms of selenium, and minerals in forms other than oxides)

2.  Fish oil with 1000 mgs to 2000 mgs of omega 3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA)

3.  Vitamin D 2,000 units per day or vitamin D 5,000 units per day if you do not get regular sun exposure.  This takes 2 to 3 months to build up in the body.

4.  For those with irritable bowel or acid reflux, I recommend a probiotic and perhaps the supplement zinlori (zinc carnosine) available at Nora Apothecary.

Diet: Of course supplements work better with a good diet.  Diet is work but the results can be dramatic.  To work on your diet consider the following

  1. “A Week in the Zone” by Barry Sears.  Kind of techie but good.  Basics of diet and one week of recipes and percent body fat calculator available at zonediet.com.
  2. “The Ultrametabolism Cookbook”, by Mark Hyman, good recipes, good for those with food sensitivities, and good for weight loss.
  3. “The fat Resistance Diet: by Leo Galland, Good for weight loss, and anti-inflammatory.
  4. One on one diet counseling with Margie Setterlof, Village Square lane, 813-0799
  5. For a dietary and supplement program to help with acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome see Dr. Ed Zimmer, 813-1998.

Things you can do for wellness: If you are interested in pursuing wellness in more depth, I am sponsoring a wellness plan which typically meets on the first Tuesday of the month in the waiting room at 7:30 pm.  The plan uses diet, supplements, and nutritional labs.  To see what we are talking about and the specifics of meeting times go to http://turnquistr.googlepages.com.

Supplement Sources: There are many places you can get supplements.  Nora Apothecary, 1101 E. 86th Street sells a good fish oil as well as a broad line of other supplements.    Dr. Ed  Zimmer, 8202 Clearvista pkwy, Suite 8E, sells a nice line of supplements.  Symmergy, our neighbor in this building, sells some professional grade supplements as well.

Designs for Health sells supplements at a reasonable price.  I make no money on these supplements.  To order supplements from them do the following:

  1. Call Designs for health at 1-800-847-8302, identify yourself as my patient and set up an account.
  2. To order on line go to Designsforhealth.com and click on the catalog tab
  3. To order by phone just call the number above.  A catalog is available.
