Want to learn to Bellydance?

Consider taking a class Fall semester (August 28th–December 13th)

RECR 193 Fusion Belly Dance, T/R, 11am-12:30pm, SRC studio,

CRN 77049

Did you know there are many styles of belly dance? Join Brighton Brooks, Artistic Director of Delirium Dance, for a semester study in modern fusion belly dance. Learn fascinating history and culture, practice improvisational dance techniques, explore new tribal fusion combos, sweat, listen to bad-ass music, and meet new people! NO prior dance experience needed, just bring an open mind and fierce attitude!

You *can* repeat this course as new material will be covered every semester!

Anyone can enroll, but you must register through UAF. If you are not already in the UAF system, you must first apply for admission as a non-degree seeking student: http://uaf.edu/admissions/apply/#instructions

Contact Brighton for help registering at 907-455-2067 or brighton.brooks@alaska.edu

Easiest way to enroll: Go to Room 110 at the CTC building (6th & Barnette) and ask them to register you for the course. REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS SEPT 3.

Note: you also have the option to “audit” the course. Students audit classes if they are unsure about being able to attend enough classes to pass the course.

Detailed Course Description: This course is designed for ALL ability levels, body types, and gender expressions and requires no prior training. We will refine technique and gain a deeper understanding of rhythm, musicality, style, history, and evolution of modern belly dance. The majority of the semester will focus on three modern styles: Hot Pot Improv Tribal Style, American Tribal Style, and Tribal Fusion. You will also be introduced to a variety of theatrical and improvisation exercises as well as finger cymbals (zills). Students can expect a strengthening and endurance warm ups and a Vini-yoga style cool down at the end of each class.
