Want to learn to Bellydance?

Consider taking a class Spring semester (Jan 16–May 5)

RECR 193 Fusion Belly Dance, T/R, 5:30-7pm, CTC room 116, CRN 37539

Did you know there are many styles of belly dance? Join Brighton Brooks, tribal fusion and improv performer and world traveler, for a semester study in modern fusion belly dance. Learn fascinating history and culture, practice improvisational dance techniques, explore new tribal fusion combos, sweat, listen to badass music, and meet new people! NO prior belly dance experience needed, just bring an open mind and fierce attitude!

Anyone can enroll, but you must register through UAF. If you are not already in the UAF system, you must first apply for admission: http://uaf.edu/admissions/apply/#instructions

Contact Brighton for help registering at 907-455-2067 or brighton.brooks@alaska.edu

Easiest way to enroll: Go to Room 110 at the CTC building (6th & Barnette) and ask them to register you for the course.

Note: you also have the option to “audit” the course. Students audit classes if they are unsure about being able to attend enough classes to pass the course.

Detailed Course Description: This course is designed for introductory level students with any kind of dance experience. We will refine technique and gain a deeper understanding of rhythm, musicality, the different styles, history, and evolution of modern belly dance from its folk roots to modern incarnations. The majority of the semester will focus on three modern styles: Hot Pot Improv Tribal Style, American Tribal Style, and Tribal Fusion. You will also be introduced to a variety of props including finger cymbals (zills). Students can expect a Pilates based warm up for core strengthening and a Vini-yoga style cool down at the end of each class.
