Annual General Meeting - May 11

Attention Members and Volunteers:  Please attend our Annual General Meeting on May 11 at the offices of Credit Valley Conservation, 1255 Old Derry Road, Mississauga, ON.  Starts promptly at 7 pm.  Updates on our Bringing Back Brookies! project and other new information.  Come out and see old friends or meet new ones.

Upper Credit River Clean Up at Sligo Bridge Reach

Saturday April 16th - it's our annual river clean up event.  Meet at Sligo Bridge - McLaughlin Rd. first bridge north of Grange Side Road in Caledon at 9 AM.  We will walk the river bank and pick up trash so please bring appropriate clothing and good boots.  Waders not required but some folks may want to wear them.  Last year we pulled out old tires stuck in a log jam!  We will offer refreshments and some light food once we are finished.  Come meet and socialize with like minded people who care about the river.

Free!

Volunteers are needed to help with Brook Trout spawning surveys. Volunteers will be sent out to a number of locations with an experienced group leader to map where Brook Trout and other species are spawning.

Please bring:

  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather
  • If you don’t have your own chest waders and polarized sunglasses, they will be supplied.

This event may be canceled due to heavy rain or unsuitable river conditions. Meeting location is Credit River at Charleston Sideroad (Hwy 24), west of McLaren Road. Park in parking lot on south side of Hwy 24. MAP

***Under 18? Check out our Youth Volunteer Policy, you many need to bring a waiver signed by a parent/guardian to participate.

Upper Credit Community Tree Planting - Upper Credit Conservation Area

Saturday October 24

Sponsored by Credit Valley Conservation

Help restore the natural buffer along the Credit River with the Halton Peel Woodlands and Wildlife Stewardship group and Trout Unlimited. Participate in our riparian planting and improve our cold water fisheries.

  • No experience needed, there will be demonstrations on site
  • Equipment will be provided, but if you have your own shovel please bring it 
  • Light refreshments and snacks will be offered after the tree planting

Saturday May 23 - Event Full - Benthic sampling

Wednesday June 24 - volunteers needed for Electrofishing; please sign up at www.creditvalleyca.ca/event/upper-credit-conservation-area-electrofishing-day/ 

Sunday July 12 - volunteers needed to construct woody habitats in the stream to improve fish habitat

Saturday August 8 - volunteers needed to construct woody habitats and other structures in the stream for fish habitat.  For more information and to sign up please go to http://www.creditvalleyca.ca/event/upper-credit-conservation-area-stream-restoration-workday-4/ 

Additional Volunteer Opportunities:  July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 21, 28 - 2 volunteers needed on each date to help advise and supervise Conservation Youth Corps groups (7 students per day).  Project will be building tree silt traps and embedding cover logs along the stream bank.
