My name is Tuan Lam. I am a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Loyola University New Orleans.  I completed my Ph.D in Cognitive Psychology with a minor in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to coming to Loyola, I completed training as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Northwestern University.

My area of research is psycholinguistics, and I specialize in conversational reference and prosodic prominence. I study both what people say and how they say it. In particular, I am interested in the words that speakers choose to emphasize in a sentence and how those words stand out compared to the rest of the sentence. More recently, I have begun to study bilingualism and its effects on speech production and perception.
