Quite often I am approached by graduate students who want to work with me toward a PhD thesis. My area of research is mostly on computational algebraic geometry with emphasis on moduli spaces, algebraic curves and their automorphisms, Jacobians etc.
This area requires a strong background in algebra, complex analysis, and algebraic topology. Courses that I recommend you to take here at Oakland University are as follows:
It is very important that you pick an advisor by the end of your second year in graduate school. Our program has a very strict rule of funding PhD students only for 5 years.
