~ As a reminder, your student MUST graduate by June 15th of this school year to be considered for SC scholarships. Please plan your year accordingly.

~ If your student plans to take a Dual Credit course, please make sure they are ready. Dual Credit courses count toward the GPA needed to keep the Life scholarship in college after the freshman year. A student can qualify for the Life Scholarship for his freshman year based on his high school grades but lose it his sophomore year of college due to a poor Dual Credit grade averaged into his freshman year. Please keep this in mind.

~ According to the SC Commission on Higher Education, students should only have 4 years of high school. Some homeschool families create an extra senior year, however, this could disqualify your student from a SC scholarship. Earning high school credits in middle school is acceptable, but having more than 5 years of high school is not.

~I will send out reminders in the upcoming newsletters about Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. Unlike other SC scholarships which are granted by the college, TSCHAA must apply on your student's behalf. A student has to apply before graduation - this includes if they graduate mid-year. Once your student has graduated, they are no longer eligible to apply. This scholarship is worth up to $6700.

***Since you are the official record keeper, you must contact me if your student qualifies for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. To be eligible, the student must have a 1400 SAT/32 ACT and a 4.0 SC UGP.  Early Award (opens Mid-October - December 15th) is based off the final Junior year SC GPA and Late Award (Mid-April - June 15th) is based off final Senior year GPA.

I hope everyone is having a great start to their school year. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way this year.

Happy Homeschooling,
Lara T Caldwell, TSCHAA Director
