Registration has opened for our Charlotte Motor Speedway STEM class!

October 25th at 10:00 AM - $20 per student/ $10 per parent plus $1.50 per person Paypal fee (Kindergarten - 12th grade)

3-hour program

"Recognized by the North Carolina Motorsports Association, the STEM program at Charlotte Motor Speedway offers students a fun and educational experience. Students will relate motorsports to core principles of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by navigating through various hands-on stations. Upon completion of the stations, students are welcome to experience the 24 degree banking of Charlotte Motor Speedway by taking a tour van ride around the 1.5 mile NASCAR track!

SPEED & ACCELERATION
Come and explore the velocity of a moving car! Teams will clock and measure speeds at varying angles that correlate to our different race tracks.

REMOTE CONTROL CARS
Get ready to race! Teams will run a series of qualifying times and compete in races based upon the average they calculate.

WEIGHT & BALANCE
Students will form "pit crews" and work together as they learn about weight distribution. Pit crews will calculate pre-adjustment and post-adjustment weight.

TRACTION
Groups will use a set of cars to measure the degree of traction on multiple surfaces. They will form a hypothesis based on the angle the car will move.

FRICTION
Students will learn how friction plays an important role in motorsports. This station will focus on Newton's Laws of Motion." (Charlotte Motor Speedway)

Sports Opportunities for Homeschoolers

Equal Access Interscholastic Bill

This law gives homeschoolers the ability to participate in extracurricular activities at a public school. Please note that a student should have been homeschooled for 1 year in the district he/she wishes to play sports in, and the family should notify the superintendent of the district in writing before the sportseason begins. Failure to meet these requirements could result in the student being ineligible to play.

For more information, please visit this website.

A printable letter of intent to the School Superintendent for participating in extracurricular activities can be found here.
