I am Troy Faulkner, a mathematics teacher, adjunct professor, husband, father, and son.
I have been helping students learn mathematics since 1990. I have been working on maximizing the learning of my students at Byron High School since 2000. I have been using a SMART Board since 2002 and doing SMART Notebook training for Tierney Brothers in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. In the fall of 2009, I lead my department in developing a textbook free curriculum for our Algebra 1 and Geometry curriculums. I have been flipping my classroom since the fall of 2010, shortly after we implemented our textbook free curriculum. Because of our work on developing a textbook free curriculum and flipping our classes, my department and I won Intel's School of Distinction Award for High School Mathematics in the fall of 2011. In January of 2012 Rob Warneke, a fellow mathematics teacher at Byron High School, introduced me to Eric Mazur's concept of Peer Instruction. In May 2012, I had the privileged of meeting and presenting with Aaron Sams (who along with Jon Bergman are considered the pioneers of the flipped classroom and flipped learning) at Intel's International Educator Academy and Intel's International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, PA. I am an adjunct professor at Augsburg College's Rochester campus, where I also use the Peer Instruction Flipped Learning model.
I have a passion for improving the learning of my students. I am always looking for ways to improve and change. I often survey my students on how class is going and what things could be changed or improved. Click on the link at the bottom of this page to see the survey results of former students who are currently in college.
I am married to a wonderfully amazing wife and have two great sons. I enjoy camping with my family and making furniture, when I have time.
