A workshop on Tropical Geometry will take place at
CIEM (International Centre for Mathematical meetings) in Castro Urdiales, Cantabria, Spain,
 on December 12-16, 2011.

We seek to bring together the leading experts in the field to show the most recent developments in this area and to promote tropical geometry within the Iberian mathematical community. There will be mentoring opportunities for students and young researchers. We plan to have 4 - 5 invited talks per day. In addition, there will be a student session and an open problem session during the week.

This meeting is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and colleague
 Mikael Passare (1959-2011)
