A great Court of Honor! Congratulations to all!

Cub Scout Back to School Night is tonight - Thursday September 11th at Rural Point School - 7:00. We need to help out the Pack and recruit our next generation of scouts. Please plan to help out if you can.

Charles Gowan's Eagle project is September 13th. This is a creek-cleanup project. Meet at 9'o clock at Ashland Coffee and Tea. Pizza will be provided as well as gloves. Wear shoes and socks you don't mind getting dirty.

Stephen Kelley's Eagle Project has been rescheduled for the next several Sunday afternoons. The first will be this Sunday, September 14th from 1:00 - 5:30. "We will be constructing a playground for the kids of a local church, so please bring work gloves, safety glasses, and other basic construction equipment (power drills, wrenches, etc.) if you can. Drinks will be provided. This is an ambitious project so please try and find time to come, I will need all the help I can get."

The church is Mechanicsville Presbyterian Church; it's address is 7339 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville. Here is a link to it on mapquest -

In response to last Tuesday's scout meeting, here is a list of some tools that we are in short supply of and will be using at my Eagle Project next Saturday (the 6th). Please attach this to the previous information on the troop e-mail about my eagle project:

"Electric Drills (2) with Phillips screw bits

Drill bits in these sizes (3/16'', 3/8'', 5/16'', and 7/16'')

Sockets in these sizes (9/16'', and 1/2'')

Screwdrivers (Medium Phillips)

Circular Power Saw with an outside extension cord.

If any volunteers could bring some of these tools that would be of great help, all other tools not listed here are ones that we have enough of. Thank you for your assistance."

We will attend the Air Show in in Oceana and Camp September 19-21.

Fall Stew. $6.00/quart – we’ll be making it September 26-27. For those unfamiliar with the Stew Process - We pre-sell all of our stew - usually about 1000 quarts. We will make it that Friday and Saturday. We will need some help from adults to move the pots Thursday night the 25th at 7:00. Meet at Shady Grove United Methodist Church at 7:00. On Friday we need all hands on deck for Chicken Picking at 6:00 PM. Scouts should plan to stay the night as we need to keep the five post stirring all night and the more scouts we have, the more shifts we can have, so the less time we all spend stirring. Any adults who can stay the night are encouraged to do so. Bright and early Saturday morning we all gather to dip the stew into the quart containers and prepare the stew for delivery. Everyone who possibly can (adults, leaders, brothers & sisters, grandparents, neighbors) needs to help out with Chicken Picking and dipping. In any case, all stew must be picked up no later than 8:00 Saturday morning and out to delivery. We will need some folks to help return the pots and clean up as well. This all takes place at the Hatcher-Cole Fraternal Order of the Police Lodge on Shady Grove Road, just north of the 295 overpass.

The troop’s 25th Anniversary Celebration will be held October 5th at the “Hanover Courthouse Ruritan Park from about 3:00 – 8:00. Please plan to attend with your whole family. If you know of anyone who has been connected with the troop who is not on our address list, please get their address or contact information to Ben Ward ASAP!

Summer Camp is just around the corner - OK, it's hard to think about Summer Camp for next year, but we will be producing application sheets and asking for commitments (June 28 - July 4).

There is also a second High Adventure West Virginia White Water trip from July 19 - July 25. Information was given at the COH, and more is on the way, but we will need to raise funds and get commitments soon for this trip!

Popcorn Sales have started. An additional Popcorn e-mail will go out soon. Mr. Showalter is our Popcorn chairman this year.

The calendar is on the web site. Please check it out as it is very full, and more is being added!

Special Thoughts and Prayers - Please keep Shawn Coffey in your thoughts as she recovers from surgery, as well as Tom and Jean Carr and thier son serving in Afghanistan.

Advice from the Scoutmaster: Think about the American Creed:

I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principals of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.

I there fore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.
