Please read carefully - there is a lot in this update including - Oceana, Stew, 25th Anniversary, Popcorn, Elections and More!
A really fun meeting, and a busy schedule ahead. The rockets were fun to watch, even if some failed to reach the altitude of the eagles.
Speaking of Eagles - Congratulations to Patrick C. - Our newest Eagle Scout!
Charles' Eagle project was a great success, we picked up a huge amount of trash. It is amazing what gets into a creek. We got started on Stephen's on Sunday. The report is that a lot got done, but there will be at least one more work day the Sunday after Stew. Times to come.
This Weekend - Oceana Air Show trip! This is going to be a great trip, if you have never been to an Air Show, you are going to be in for a real treat. The Troop will be staying in a WWII barracks at Fort Story in Virginia Beach during this trip and will be attending the Oceana Air Show
at Oceana Air Force Base on Saturday. At the air show, they will see the U.S. Navy Blue Angels perform along with many other aerobatic aviators.
They will have the chance to see up close many of this country military tactical strike force such as F/A-18C Hornet and F-22 Raptor.
Please pack as light for this trip. (Only bring a small duffel bag) We will be staying in WWII barracks in bunk type beds. You shouldn’t need
much more than a light sleeping bag or bedroll, Class B T-shirts to wear around Fort Story, an extra pair of socks and underwear, small towel and
wash cloth along with your personal hygiene gear (tooth brush, tooth paste, etc). Please plan on bringing sun protection for this trip, including a
hat. Remember this is a class A event, meaning we travel in and from this event in class A’s (at least your class A shirt – neckerchiefs are not
needed.) and will be wearing class A’s at the Air Show. No electronics – leaders will have cell phones for emergencies.
We will gather at the parking lot at 5:00 pm on Friday. Permission slips will be available on Friday and will require to be completed by each parent
of each scout attending this event. We plan to be back to the parking lot on Sunday at or before 11:00 am.
For this trip each scout should bring $15.00 in cash for this trip. Souvenirs will be sold at this event and if they would like to something
they should bring some extra money (no more than $10.00) Plans are for the Troop to stop at McDonald’s on Saturday and Sunday morning for breakfast.
We are not allowed to bring food or drinks into the air show on Saturday; therefore each scout will be buying lunch at air show. For Saturday
dinner, we are planning to stop a Pizza Hut. The cost of the meal will be divided up among the troop attending and collected at the next Troop
meeting (estimate to be $7.00 to $ 10.00).
Fall Stew. $6.00/quart – we’ll be making it September 26-27. For those unfamiliar with the Stew Process - We pre-sell all of our stew - usually about 1000 quarts, So get out there and Sell!!! - We need final sales numbers Tuesday night! We will make it that Friday and Saturday. We will need some help from adults to move the pots Thursday night the 25th at 7:00; meet at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Friday Chicken Picking at 6:00 PM. Scouts should plan to stay the night as we need to keep the five post stirring all night and the more scouts we have, the more shifts we can have, so the less time we all spend stirring. Any adults who can stay the night are encouraged to do so. Bright and early Saturday morning we all gather to dip the stew into the quart containers and prepare the stew for delivery. Everyone who possibly can (adults, leaders, brothers & sisters, grandparents, neighbors) needs to help out with Chicken Picking and dipping. In any case, all stew must be picked up no later than 8:00 Saturday morning and out to delivery. We will need some folks to help return the pots and clean up as well. This all takes place at the Hatcher-Cole Fraternal Order of the Police Lodge on Shady Grove Road, just north of the 295 overpass. Everyone must wear a hat all times when dealing with the food.
The troop’s 25th Anniversary Celebration will be held October 5th at the “Hanover Courthouse Ruritan Park from about 3:00 – 8:00. Please plan to attend with your whole family. If anyone has not yet sent your RSVP to attend the Troop 555 25th Reunion it is not too late to do so. We need to know if you are going to be with us as the Troop is providing the dinner."
Popcorn Sales have started. An additional Popcorn e-mail will go out soon. Mr. Showalter is our Popcorn chairman this year. If you have complete orders or money, please give them to Mr. Showalter. - Don't hang on to them until the end of the sale! The final date to turn in orders is October 28th.
