The new scouting year has started – Welcome back!

On Saturday, January 8th, 2011 the troop will visit and hike the town of Fredericksburg. This 3.5 mile hike will begin with a tour of Chatham, a 1700’s manor house that was the headquarters of the Union army during the battle. We’ll then hike down and across the Rappahannock River and through the town following the advance of the Union army noting points of interest along the way. The halfway point of the hike will be at the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor’s center where we’ll watch a 20-minute film, warm up and eat lunch. We’ll hike along the Confederate Line, the National Cemetery on Marye’s Heights and return through the town passing by Mary Washington’s house and grave and the Confederate Cemetery. The hike will end back at Chatham.

We’ll leave New Hanover Presbyterian Church at 8:30 am and arrive at Chatham around 10:00 am. We’ll return to the church between 3pm and 4pm.

Items needed include a bag lunch, something to drink, a daypack and money for additional snacks or souvenirs. Class A Uniform shirt and neckerchief and appropriate cold weather clothing required!!

There will be a regular meeting next Tuesday, and a PLC next Wednesday at 7:45.

On Tuesday January 18th we will be holding a Webelo open house. Invite a friend!!

Winter Camp Update from Mrs. Coffey

Good evening, for all scouts that have signed up to go to Winter Camp, there are some prerequisites that are needed BEFORE , we leave. The easiest way to get this information is to go toWWW.BRADYSAUNDERS.NET . Under Winter Camp, click on Program Guide. The prerequisites are listed on pages 5 and 6. I spoke with the scouts that are going and it was understood that they would need to purchase the Merit Badge books that pertain to the classes they will be taking. Please donot wait to do your prerequisites. Merit Badge books can be purchased at the council office, at Fitzhugh and Malvern Ave. in Richmond. We are going to have a great time!! Please feel free to call me at 869-1995

As a gentle reminder, these are the classes that were signed up for. The classes with an asterisk* have prerequsites.

A few things to be thinking about in the near (and not so near) future.

In January and February the council will hold the Patrick Henry Public Speaking merit badge program. This takes place January 22, 29 & February 5th. See the Scoutmaster, or another leader for more details.

Summer Camp is July 10-16. The troop has already made commitments. If you are interested in Summer Camp, the troop would like the first deposit of $100 toward the fee by the end of February.
