Pretty good attendance last night for an exam week meeting – Hope to see more of you next week and this weekend at the Klondike!
The committee should be meeting next week for advancement.
The Open House schedule for last Tuesday will be rescheduled. At this point it looks like we will be able to have it on the 15th of February.
KLONDIKE DERBY INFORMATION –
January 29th, Troop 555 will attend and participate in the Battlefield District's annual Klondike Derby. Scouts (and perhaps leaders!) will transport their gear in the famed Troop 555 sled to various trail stations to compete in scout skills. These skills will include sled inspection, fire building, cooking, tossing accuracy, knots, map/compass, first aid, backpacking, signaling, ice rescue and shelter building.
We will meet at the Carson Building at 7:30 am and leave at 7:45 am. (Leaders please arrive at 7:15 am to begin to load gear!) Opening ceremonies begin at 8:30. The event runs until 5:00 pm and we'll be back to the Carson Building by 6:00 pm. Plan on bringing a daypack, bag lunch, water/drink, a cup for hot drinks and a notebook/pen in a plastic baggie. As always..DRESS IN LAYERS for warmth!!
We have just received word that the Klondike Derby scheduled for this weekend has been postponed due to conditions at the site. As soon as there is a new date, we will let you know.
There will be a $10.00 fee for this event to cover the cost of the outing and the patch. If you did not sign up at the meeting and want to come along....please do! We have plenty of spots still available on the sled team! Additional participants can call Mr. Cloe at home 550-0926 or email him at email@example.com
If you have any current merit badge books that you are willing to part with – Please donate them to our troop library!
Be thinking about Stew, and remember that our Court of Honor and Spring Friends of Scouting Dinner is scheduled for February 8th. Bring a notice of what you want to provide next week – assignments for Desserts, Sides, etc. will be forthcoming! (Parents who would like to volunteer to help – please contact Ed Showalter firstname.lastname@example.org)
We have a day-hike planned on the 19th of February. About 6 miles of easy hiking around Belle Isle. Cool!!!
Advice from the Scoutmaster – Don’t Hibernate! One of the most important parts of Scouting is outing! Even when it’s cold.
1/29 - Klondike Derby
2/1 - Regular Meeting
2/8 - FOS Dinner, Court of Honor
2/15 - Open House
2/19 - Belle Isle Hike
2/25-26 – Spring Stew – Be selling!
Please remember that Troop meetings start promptly at 7:30. Leaders are there from about 7:15 and Scouts can gather and take advantage of this time to talk to the leaders. Please don't wait until the end of the meeting for advancement sing-off. If you are leaving the meeting early, please make sure the scoutmaster or an assistant scoutmaster know you are leaving so we won’t go looking for you.
