We had a busy night learning about Japanese/Filipino lashings. This was one of the many things Seamus learned at Buckskin.

From Seamus

Hi Scouts, Leaders, and Parents,

On Saturday, August 16th, from 10-3 pm I will be doing my Eagle Scout Project at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (and school). They have no benches around the

playground and fitness trail, so for my project we are going to make and install 10 benches so that kids who need to rest or visiting parents can sit and watch the kids on the playground. What we are going to do is to dig holes to put the benches in, then level the benches, sand them, and then protect them with Thompson's Water Seal. A special lunch will be provided.

When: august 16 (this Saturday) 10:00am-3:00pm

Where:Our Lady of Lourdes Church

What: setting benches

Tools Needed: eye protection

work gloves

bolt cutters

hack saw

shovel

for directions or questions call me at 550-0111

Thank you,

Seamus

If anyone is interested in attending Buckskin next year, you need to let me know ASAP. These fill up fast.

We were introduced to a church service project that will take place on August 31st at New Hanover. There will be only 1 church service that day and they need a crew to direct traffic in the morning from about 9:45 - 10:30 AM and a second crew to put up chairs starting at about 2:30 PM until they are finished. We will have a discussion on the logistics of directing traffic to make sure this activity will be as safe as possible. Please check your calendars and plan on attending this event. Any time spent on this will count as service time and is a great way to give back to the church that sponsors us.

Next meeting we will be building bottle rockets. Each boy should know what he is going to bring, but just in case, the complete list is at the bottom of this e-mail. The rules are also listed.

Next week we will also be doing meal planning for Eagle Point. We need commitments for this trip at the meeting, no later.

We also need commitments for the Air Show in September 19-21 by next week.

Summer Camp is just around the corner - OK, it's hard to think about Summer Camp for next year, but we will be producing application sheets and asking for commitments (June 28 - July 4). There is also a surprise week trip from July 19 - July 25. Keep this week open - more to follow.

The calendar is on the website. Not everything is there from our planning, but refer to the calendar for the most recent updates.

If you want to see what dues you owe, see Benjamin. He has figured out dues till the end of the year. There will be no amnesty this year. You must be up to date on dues for advancement.

OA Ordeal is coming up and many in the troop have not paid their 2008 dues. Please get this up to date. You can see Ben Ward for forms.

Advice from the Scoutmaster: You can't buy character. Character comes from doing the right thing.
