Good evening all!

The Capital Bike Trail was a huge success! Thank you to all the parents who made transportation of scouts and bikes possible. We could not have done it without you!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Unit elections..next week..  Please “be prepared to tell us why you would be the best leader for a troop position.

Order of the Arrow Elections are next week (5/23/2017).

Membership Requirements: (

https://oa-bsa.org/pages/content/membership-and-induction)
  • Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
  • The youth must have experienced 15 nights of Boy Scout camping while registered with a troop or team within the two years immediately prior to the election. The 15 nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of at least five consecutive nights of overnight camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. Only five nights of the long-term camp may be credited toward the 15-night camping requirement. The balance of the camping (10 nights) must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps of, at most, three nights each.
  • Youth must be under the age of 21, hold the BSA First Class rank or higher, and following approval by the Scoutmaster or Varsity team Coach, be elected by the youth members of their troop or team.
  • Adults (age 21 or older) who are registered in the BSA and meet the camping requirements may be selected following nomination to the lodge adult selection committee.  Adult selection is based on their ability to perform the necessary functions to help the Order fulfill its purpose, and is not for recognition of service, including current or prior positions. Selected adults must be an asset to the Order because of demonstrated abilities, and must provide a positive example for the growth and development of the youth members of the lodge.

Scouts are selected because they best exemplify the Scout Oath and Scout Law, and their cheerful service to others.

The Unit Leader Guidebook Vol. 1 & 2 has been updated…As leaders and parents in Scouting, we have an obligation to keep ourselves updated on all policies that pertain to Boy Scouts of America and to make our Troop, the healthiest that it can be. If you have not done so, already, this is your opportunity to have a better understanding and  know the policies, procedures, standards, training opportunities, mission, aims, methods and ideals of Scouting.

It is  my hope that all leaders and parents will take time to review this. This is available at the Local Council Scout service center or you can order it online at:

Weekly Update 8/18/2015

posted Aug 19, 2015, 1:26 PM by Daniel Carter Beard   [ updated Aug 19, 2015, 1:26 PM ]

Good morning all,

First, thank you to the leaders who made it possible for me to spend time with my family, yesterday. I appreciate you covering for me!!

We have a Patrol Leader Council Meeting/ PLC this coming Thursday at 7:00 PM

Our Annual Planning/Leaders Meeting will be on August 30th, at the Witt’s home, at 1:00. ( more details to come)

Order of the Arrow Service Weekend is coming up on Sept. 11-13.  If you are a newly elected scout or leader, this is your opportunity to complete your induction/ordeal. If you are already an Arrowman, please consider your involvement. In the past, we have NOT had a positive turn out for these weekends. Part of being an Arrowman, is your commitment to future Service Weekends. Please come on out to Camp T. Brady Saunders, work a little, play a little, eat, and enjoy the fellowship with our brother arrowman. REMEMBER, PART OF BEING AN ARROWMAN IS CHEERFUL SERVICE!!!

We are registered for Winter Camp !!! We have spots for 4 adults and 8 youth.

At this point I have the following commitments.

Mrs. Coffey

Mr. Altman

Mr. Witt

Tyler W.

Joshua E.

Andrew B.

The cost of the event is $55 for youth and $50 for adults. WE WILL BE TENT CAMPING!! This will be held the weekend of Jan 15-18, 2016

Our next committee meeting will be September 1. If you are going up for advancement, you need to have your Scoutmasters conference before Sept 1

Our Semi-annual Court of Honor will be September15th. This is for scouts and their family. Please come and share the accomplishments with your scout.

The Summit Bechtel Reserve We are seriously looking at going back to The Summit in 2016. Ours Scouts had such a great time, this past June, and have expressed a desire to have another fund raiser at Stevi B’s to raise funds for another adventure to The Summit.  We will need to have a meeting to go over program and plan for this event. Scouts need to be 13 and 1st Class to attend. If we do not have a regular scout meeting on Sept 8th,  we may consider this evening to get together to start planning for this event. Thoughts??

Sept 8th / first day of school Traditionally, we do not meet the day that our scouts return to school. At this point, I have had  4 scouts/parents say that they would like to meet on the first day of school. We will make a final decision as we get a little closer to the date.

STEW FUNDRAISER Believe it or not, it is time to start thinking about our next STEW WEEKEND ! At this point, we need to get commitments for the following areas/responsibilities. Stew will be the weekend of Sept 25-26

FOP BUILDING/ do we have the use of the building secured for this date

CHICKEN/ Who will be in charge of ordering/picking up on Friday Sept 25

CANNED VEGETABLES/ Who will be ordering/picking up

TRAILOR for these tasks and others

***There is more to come, but these are the most vital at this point***

Thank you for all you do,

Yours in scouting,

Mrs. Coffey

Good morning all!

We had a small, but very energetic group of scouts last night!  We promptly finished the “checking “  of the remaining tents, then our older scouts, helped the younger scouts finish up some physical activity requirements. Thank you!
Our older scouts had a chance to make waterproof fire starters! We will make more of these, next week and then have aPatrol String Burning Competition!

5 of our scouts had their  Scoutmaster’s conference and will be going up for advancement, next week! Awesome!

We are still on the calendar for Stevi B’s, next Wed. December 3rd. Come out, any time from 5:30 to 9:00, eat PIZZA and help our scouts go to The Summit, next Summer!

FAMILY EVENT!!!! We have a day trip, planned for December 7, to go to Colonial Williamsburg. We will be participation in a walking Historical tour, and our Scouts will have an opportunity to earn a special patch.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING and SAFE TRAVELS TO ALL!

Advice from the Scoutmaster,

We live as scouts, even when we are not in uniform!
