We are glad you are interested in being a part of Troop 8, and we look forward to meeting you and your family!
Our History:Troop 8 has been a great place for kids to learn and grow and have fun for over 90 years! Chartered on October 1st, 1920, Troop 8 has helped over 125 young adults achieve the highest rank in scouting, the Eagle. Countless young people have learned about camping, citizenship, hobbies, and the values that form the foundation for being leaders in their school, church, community and chosen vocation.
Our Purpose:The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated to provide a program for community organizations that offers effective character, citizenship, and personal fitness training for youth.
Specifically, the BSA endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have personal values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help others; understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand our nation's role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American Society (Scouting.org).
The Scouting program has three specific objectives, commonly referred to as the "Aims of Scouting." they are character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. the methods by which the aims are achieved are listed next in random order to emphasize the equal importance of each: Ideals, Patrols, Outdoor Programs, Advancement, Association with Adults, Personal Growth, Leadership Development, and Uniform (Scouting.org).
First, you need to decide if Troop 8 is the troop for you. There are many fine troops in Appleton and we encourage you to visit them before you make your final decision. It is important that you have a Scouting experience that meets your needs.
Troop 8 is known as the camping troop and we camp every month January - December in some capacity. We love being outdoors and our troop is very involved in camping.
