2014 Pinhoti Backpacking Trip

Ten scouts and scouters began their southbound hike of section 7 of the Pinhoti Trail at the US 431 Highway trailhead. (click on photo for larger image)

We stopped at Large Cascade for lunch.  Here is another group photo of some happy hikers.

The first day we were hiking ahead of schedule so we hiked about 2 miles farther than planned in order to make day two a little easier.  The campsite was in the fork of two creeks.  We had a great day but everyone was tired and went to bed early.

Early on day two we encountered Hillabee Creek which wasn't too bad a crossing.  After a heavy rain this creek can be waist deep.

We all made it safely across.

There are a lot of hills on this trail.

We make it to Blue Mountain Shelter for the second night.  Shelters are nice because there is usually a shelf to cook on and some shelters, like this one, have a picnic table.

Here we are at the end of this weekend's hike, the Cheaha Trailhead.  Now it's time to go home, clean and store gear, take a hot shower, and maybe even a nap.
