About Troop 200

Welcome to Troop 200 of Elwood, New York! We are a boy scout troop of many scouts of different ranks. Our fundraisers include car washes and wreath sales. Around Thanksgiving, we place orders for wreaths and centerpieces for the holidays. We have car washes at the Moose Lodge on Pulaski Road during the warmer months. We have about 1 car wash a month (except in the winter.) The money that we raise from these fundraisers go towards camp expenses, supplies, and many other items. Our car wash in June benefits the Scouts. The money raised at this car wash gets distributed to the scouts (depending on how many hours they have worked), to spend at Camp Yawgoog, the summer camp that we attend in Rockville, Rhode Island. Each scout is required to complete 12 hours of car washes. The more hours you work, the more spending money you receive at summer camp.

We are a troop that loves to camp and cook. We attend Webelos Woods, where we introduce Webelos to Boy Scouts. We attend the SCC Polar Bear. The Polar Bear is a campout held by Suffolk County Council in January. Every year, a different troop hosts the event. The hosting troop creates "stations" at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp that tests the skills that a Boy Scout should have. We were the host troop in 2011.

We also visit Shawnee Mountain Ski Area in Pennsylvania. On the ski trip, we stay at a hotel with a pool. Scouts who need to achieve requirements related to water rescue and swimming, can accomplish these requirements in the pool at the hotel. The ski trip is a troop favorite. A good time is had by all of the scouts and their family and friends.

In June, we usually visit Pocono Whitewater in Jim Thorpe, PA. On this whitewater adventure, we cruise down the Lehigh river in rafts. For some June campouts however, we participate in different activities. In the past, we have visited the Renaissance Fair in Tuxedo, NY in September, Bushkill Falls in Bushkill, PA, and Camp Yaw Paw in New Jersey. Besides camping, our troop cooks up mouthwatering meals during campouts. We have won baking contests in the past.

Our troop also participates in community service. We participate in a food drive to help feed the less fortunate in our area, we organize a blood drive which saves lives, and we volunteer at Camp Alvernia in Centerport, NY. We help them move beds for a retreat.

Our troop meetings are scheduled every Monday. We meet at James H. Boyd Intermediate School on Cuba Hill Road in Greenlawn, New York. The meeting starts at 7 PM. From 7-7:30 PM, scouts work on requirements that they need to complete to advance. Opening starts at 7:30 and the meeting closes at 9 PM. Troop committee meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month unless stated otherwise. Thank you for learning more about our troop. If you wish to join, come to our meetings anytime!
