New Scouts Earn Totin Chip Cards

posted Nov 18, 2012, 5:32 PM by Eric Hansen
Saturday was a very busy day.  Our new Scouts went through wood tools university and all earned their Totin Chip cards.  Each boy learned about saws and how to use them, they learned about axes, how to sharpen them and how to cut a piece of wood, they learned about their pocket knives and how to use and care for them.  After this, they worked on their two half hitches and tautline hitches.  They finished the day making fires and competing to see who would be the fastest to burn through a piece of string.  All in all it was a very busy day.  For each event, safety was emphasized and we reviewed the first aid that might be needed to reinforce the fact that wood tools can be very dangerous if not used correctly.

Congratulations to Robby, Tom, Zhenya and Rasheed and good job to all the other boys who were there with them and helping them learn these skills.

Yours in Scouting,
Mr Hansen
