Our Troop
Boy Scout Troop 1523, chartered by Parkwood Baptist Church has been in operation for over 45 years.
We currently have 75 Scouts, ranging in age from 11 to 17 years old.
Boy Scout junior leaders run our troop. We are divided into Patrols, and a Boy Scout Patrol Leader is in charge of each one. A Senior Patrol Leader is in charge of the Troop. Other Scouts also serve in various leadership positions. These leaders serve under the watchful eyes of our Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters. We also have a very active and supportive Troop Committee.
Adult Leadership
The Troop 1523 Scoutmaster Corps places a high value on training. All have completed their position specific training and many have additional training in the areas of swimming, boating, wilderness first aid, BSA lifeguard, and the highest level of adult leadership training known as Wood Badge.
Attention Webelos
We can help you meet your Arrow of Light requirements! If you need to participate in a Troop meeting and talk to a Scoutmaster, we would like you to visit with us.
You can also go camping with us. Check our website calendar and/or contact our Scoutmaster for our Troop camping opportunities.
What We Offer
•Fun. We have a good time with all of our activities. Scouts plan our program, and they know what they like to do.
•Leadership Training. We train our Scouts how to be good leaders. Then, we give them leadership positions so they can practice their leadership skills.
•Advancement. We offer opportunities and help for young men to advance all the way to Eagle Scout. This is hard work, but if you want to be an Eagle, we want to help! 100+ Scouts have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout since the Troop was established.
Costs
Our major fund-raiser is a mulch sale in March. Scouts and their parents can apply part of the funds they earn to Scouting-related activities.
There is an annual registration fee of $70. We also collect individual activity fees for our campouts and trips based on expected costs. For a standard weekend campout, the fee is usually $20 to $30 per attending scout. The fee covers food and transportation. Obviously, summer camp, high-adventure, and other activity-based trips are more expensive.
Who Plans Our Program?
Our Scouts do!
Every summer, all Scouts who have leadership positions meet with the Scoutmaster for our Annual Planning Meeting, and they plan our program for the upcoming year.
Troop Meetings
We meet every Monday from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. at Parkwood Baptist Church.
Visitors are always welcome!
