2014-2015 Season Summary

The Troy Trojans had a very good season.  Some of the highlights included coming in second place in the Frozen Creek and the Miami Valley Freeze Tournaments. The Trojans also won their first District game in a few years. 

 

Senior Alex Smith was selected to the First Team All-League Team. Alex also reached the 100 Point Club and became the sixth highest goal scorer in Troy High School history with 66 goals for his career. Alex was also honored when he was selected to the First Team All-Academic Team. Alex was selected to receive the “Coaches Award” by the Troy coaches.

 

Senior Jake Uhlenbrock was selected to the First Team All-League, as well as the First Team All-Academic Team. Jake was selected to participate in the Senior Ohio High School All Star Team by the Ohio SW Coaches.  Jake was selected as the team’s most “Valuable Player”, “The most Outstanding Defensemen Award” and received the “Hobby Baker Award”.

 

Junior AJ Noll was selected to the First Team All-League Team for the second year in a row. AJ was also honored with the Second Team All-Academic Team.  AJ received the “Outstanding Offensive Player Award”.  AJ lead the team with the most goals and the most assists.  AJ also reached the 100 Point Club and became the seventh highest goal scorer in Troy School history as well as becoming the fourth highest in Troy school history with the most points.

 

Junior Tyler Hess was selected to the Second Team All-League Team.

 

Junior Doug Eardly was selected to the Honorable Mention All-League Team.

 

 

Each and every one of the Troy players deserve praise for a great season and each and every player displayed leadership and the ability to be the best they could be both on and off the ice.  

 

The Coaching Staff would like to take this opportunity to thank the players for a great season, the parents for their support and the Troy fans for coming out and supporting your Troy Trojans Varsity Hockey team.

 



Sunday Feb. 22nd    Troy vs. Springboro     Lost 6-0

 

Troy was playing in the third round of the District Tournament and was taking on the number 6 ranked Springboro Panthers.  The first period was back and forth with the Panthers picking a late goal to take 1-0 lead. The second period was a letdown period for Troy allowing Boro to score 4 unanswered goals and taking a 5-0 lead.  The third was pretty even with Boro picking up 1 goal and picking up the win 6-0.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 30 of the 36 shots he saw.


Saturday Feb. 21st    Troy vs. Beavercreek     Won 6-4

 

Troy was playing in the first round of the District Tournament and was taking on the Beavercreek Beavers for the fourth time in the season.  The game started with Tyler Hess scoring with Alex Smith and Johnny Wehrkamp picking up the assists.  Beavercreek scored with just under 3 minutes to go in the first to tie it up.  Creek scored again in the first minute of the second period to take a 2-1 lead. The Trojans came to life when Johnny Wehrkamp got his first goal as a varsity player with Tyler Hess picking up the assist.  AJ Noll then scored to give Troy the lead at 3-2 with Tristan Meek and Jake Uhlenbrock picking up the assist.  Creek wasn’t done yet and scored two more times before the second could end to take a 4-3 lead. The third was all Troy with Alex Smith scoring 3 times with AJ Noll getting 3 assists, Tyler Hess, Troy Moore and Jake Uhlenbrock each picking up assists.  Troy took the victory at 6-4 and ,oved on to play Springboro in the second round.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 12 of the 16 shots he saw. Alex Smith had 3 goals and 1 assist.  AJ Noll had 1 goal and 3 assists. John Wehrkamp and Tyler Hess each had 1 goal and 1 assist. Jake Uhlenbrock picked up 2 assists. Troy Moore and Tristan Meek picked up 1 assist each.

 


Thursday  Feb. 12th    Troy vs. Talawanda     Lost 6-2

 

Troy was playing at South Metro in the first round of the SWOHSHL Tournament and was taking on the number 4 seeded Talawanda Braves. The number 5 seeded Trojans scored first just 23 seconds into the game when Alex Smith scored with Prestyn Hoefler picking up the assist. Talawanda scored to make it 1-1 at the end of the first.  Troy picked up 3 penalties including a 5 minute boarding to skate much of the second period a man short. Talawanda scored 4 goals in the second period to make it 5-1 game before the Trojans could compose themselves and get a full line on the ice.  Late in the second period Alex Smith took an offensive zone faceoff and forced the puck forward off a defender’s stick right past the goalie to make it a 5-2 game.  The Braves responded with a power play goal to make it a 6-2 Braves lead.  The third period went back and forth, but with no scoring giving the Braves a 6-2 win and advancing on.  Troy had Cory Neff in the goal and he stopped 26 of 32 shots.  Alex Smith had 2 goals and Prestyn Hoefler had 1 assist.

 


Sunday  Feb. 1st    Troy vs. Centerville     Lost 9-2

 

Troy was playing at Hobart Arena for the final time of the year and was taking on the Centerville Elk who had secured second place in the league the night before and were playing great hockey.  Early in the first period Troy picked up a penalty and skated a man down, but that didn't matter to the Trojans. AJ Noll stole a pass and skated down the ice and hit Doug Eardly on the back side to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead on the short handed goal. The Elk responded to make it a 1-1 tie to end the first. The Elk found the Trojans sleeping and scored 2 goals within the first 35 second of the second period to take a 3-1 lead. The Elk scored again on a break away to make it 4-1.  Troy scored when Doug Eardly made a nice pass from below the goal line to AJ Noll for a one timer and bringing Troy back to a 4-2 deficit. The Elk quickly got that goal back when they scored with 2 minutes remaining in the second to give them a 5-2 lead. The third period was all Centerville with 4 more goals and giving them the 9-2 win. Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 19 of the 28 shots he saw. AJ Noll and Doug Eardly each had 1 goal and 1 assist.

 


Saturday  Jan. 31st    Troy vs. Sycamore     Won 7-2

 

The Troy Trojans were playing at Hobart Arena against the Sycamore Aviators for Senior Night and celebrating Seniors Kasey Hennessy, Isaiah Purves, Brandon Bark, Alex Smith and Jake Uhlenbrock's on ice accomplishments. Troy scored first when Doug Eardly scored late in the first. The first came to an end with Troy up 1-0.  The Aves scored on their first shift of the second to tie it back up while Troy was a man down. Troy responded when Tyler Hess hit Tristan Meek in front of the goal to make it 2-1 Troy. The second went back and forth with neither team really getting the upper hand. The Aves scored to tie it back up at 2-2.  With 4 minuets to go in the second, Doug Eardly saw Isaiah Purves making a backdoor cut to the net and hit him in stride. Isaiah buried it to give the lead back to Troy. Troy scored once more when Doug Eardly took a pass from Jake Uhlenbrock and hit AJ Noll for a nice one-timer to put Troy up 4-2. The third was all Troy when Kasey Hennessy scored with Brandon Bark and Troy Moore getting the assists. Tyler Hess scored with Jake Uhlenbrock and Alex Smith picking up the helpers. The last score came when Johnny Wherkamp hit AJ Noll who saw Doug Eardly alone on the backdoor to make it 7-2 game. Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 11 of the 13 shots sent his way. Doug Eardly had 2 goals and 2 assists. AJ Noll and Tyler Hess each had 1 goal and 1 assist. Tristan Meek had 1 goal. Troy Moore and Johnny Wherkamp each had 1 assist.  Seniors: Isaiah Purves had 1 goal. Kasey Hennessy had 1 goal. Jake Uhlenbrock had 3 assists. Alex Smith had 2 assists and Brandon Bark had 1 assist to give all of the seniors a game to remember.


Friday  Jan. 30th    Troy vs. Talawanda     Lost 9-3

 

The Troy Trojans were playing at Goggin Arena against the Talawanda Braves.  The Braves scored first at the 13:30 mark. Troy responded when Jake Uhlenbrock scored from the outside on an unassisted goal. Talawanda scored two more times to give them a 3-1 lead. Tyler Hess then picked up a loose puck and slapped it in to make it 3-2. Tyler then his another one with Alex Smith and Jake Uhlenbrock picking up the assist bringing Troy back to even at 3-3. The second was all Braves scoring Three more times to make it 6-3. The Third was much of the same as the Braves added 3 more to make it a 9-3 game. With 6:50 to go in the game, Nate Uhlenbrock was driven hard into the boards head first. Nate was down for some time before he was removed by E.M.S. to a local hospital for treatment.  The game was called at that point with the Braves up 9-3.  

 

Sunday  Jan. 25th    Troy vs. Elder     Won 8-1

Troy was playing at Hobart Arena and was taking on the Elder Panthers from Cincinnati.  Elder had a good record and had previously tied Talawanda 2-2 and lost a heart breaker to Beavercreek in the final 20 seconds of the game the night before 2-1.  Troy started out strong and controlled the puck in their offensive zone taking shot after shot. AJ Noll broke the ice when he scored off a Jake Uhlenbrock pass at the 6:08 mark.  The first came to an end with Troy up 1-0 but, out shooting the Panthers 15-3.  AJ Noll scored in the second minute of the second period when he redirected a nice pass from Jake Uhlenbrock.  Still on the same shift, AJ Noll scored his third of the game when he picked up a rebound and buried it with Jake Uhlenbrock and Kasey Hennessy getting the helpers.  Tyler Hess joined in when he scored from a pass from Alex Smith. Doug Eardly scored a sweet shorthanded goal when he waited for the goalie to move and then shot over top with Prestyn Hoefler picking up the assist. At the end of the second Troy was on top 5-0.  Doug Eardly scored on a power play with John Wehrkamp getting the assist early in the third.  Jake Uhlenbrock scored from DOWNTOWN with Tristan Meek and AJ Noll getting the helpers. Nate Uhlenbrock scored from the exact place that his brother Jake had just scored to make it an 8-0 Troy lead. Charlie Ryan and Kasey Hennessy picked up the assists.  Troy finally let a goal in while trying to kill off a penalty with 2:40 to go in the game to make it a 8-1 final.  Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 12 of 13 shots.  AJ Noll had 3 goals and 1 assist. Doug Eardly had 2 goals. Jake Uhlenbrock had 1 goal and 3 assists. Tyler Hess and Nate Uhlenbrock had 1 goal each.  Kasey Hennessy picked up 2 assists. Alex Smith, Tristan Meek, John Wehrkamp, Prestyn Hoefler and Charles the “Hit Man” Ryan each picked up 1 assist. 

Troy’s current record is 12-10-2.    


Saturday  Jan. 24th    Troy vs. St. Xavier     Lost 8-2

Troy was playing Cincinnati St. Xavier at the Cincinnati Gardens for their final meeting of the season. Xavier controlled the tempo and the puck for the majority of the first period scoring two goals. The first ended 2-0 with your Trojans struggling.  Xavier started the second again scoring twice to take a 4-0 lead but, with  3.8 seconds left in the second period and an offensive zone faceoff, Troy pulled their goalie to allow a man advantage.  AJ Noll won the puck directly back to Jake Uhlenbrock who unleashed a nasty outside shot to give Troy their first goal of the night.  The third period started again with Xavier scoring two more goals to give them a 6-1 lead. Tyler Hess scored from a nice pass from Doug Eardly and Caleb Mangas to make it a 6-2 game.  Xavier scored again to make it a 7-2 game.  With no time on the clock, the Xavier “Indians” were awarded a goal to make it an 8-2 final.  Cory Neff was in the goal for the first and second periods and gave up 4 goals on 16 shots. Shaemus Nevin played the third period and stopped 4 of the 8 shots he saw. Tyler Hess and Jake Uhlenbrock had 1 goal each and AJ Noll, Caleb Mangas and Doug Eardly each picked up an assist.


Sunday  Jan. 18th    Troy vs. North Royalton     Won 4-2

Troy was playing in the final round of the Pioneer Classic and was playing in the first consolation game and taking on the North Royalton Polar Bears for the second time in 24 hours.  The Bears had beaten the Trojans 4-3.  Troy knew they could skate and play with the Bears, the key was to stay out of the sin bin.  Troy started off hot when Alex Smith scored just 54 seconds into the game with Tyler Hess and Troy Moore getting the assists. The Bears answered a few minutes later to knot it up at 1-1.  The second period started with Alex Smith scoring again just 49 seconds in with Prestyn Hoefler getting the assist. Troy Moore scored 3 minutes later on a nice pass from AJ Noll and Jake Uhlenbrock to give Troy a 3-1 lead.  Royalton scored in the last minute of the second to make it a 3-2 Troy lead.  The 3rd period was back and forth with neither team getting a good look at the goal.  Troy suddenly found itself going back to the box with a 15 minute penalty with less than 5 minutes to go in the game.  The Trojans took a time out to discuss the strategy and give the skaters on the ice a breather. Troy’s strategy was to skate the puck and spread the ice and that is just what they did.  Troy controlled the puck and skated back and forth controlling the clock.  Troy finally found some breathing room when Tyler Hess found the goalie asleep and crammed in a wrap around with just 1:13 on the clock to give Troy a 4-2 lead on a shorthanded goal. Troy picked up the win and secured third place in the tournament.

Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 25 of 27 shots on goal. Alex Smith had 2 goals and 1 assist. Troy Moore and Tyler Hess each had 1 goal and 1 assist. Jake Uhlenbrock, AJ Noll and Prestyn Hoefler each picked up 1 assist.  

Troy is now 12 wins, 10 losses and 2 ties for the season


Saturday  Jan. 17th    Troy vs. North Royalton     Lost 4-3

Troy was playing their second game of the day and were taking on the North Royalton Polar Bears from Cleveland.  There was no score in the first period with both teams playing equal.  Troy scored first when AJ Noll took an Alex Smith pass and beat the goalie. The Trojans started to slip into their old pattern of picking up penalties and skating a man down. The bears scored 2 unanswered goals on power plays to take a 2-1 lead. Troy came roaring back when Brandon Bark beat the goalie with a wicked backhand to tie it back up. Tyler Hess picked up the assist.  Troy took the lead when Alex Smith was the recipient of great passing from Jake Uhlenbrock and AJ Noll and scored when the goalie was out of the crease trying to stop the passes.  The second came to an end with Troy on top 3-2.  The third period was a struggle for Troy due to more penalties.  Troy only skated 6 of 15 minute period with a full line and paid for it when North Royalton score two goals to take back the lead and the game. Troy had a total of 26 minutes of penalties.

 Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 22 of 26 shots.  Alex Smith and AJ Noll each had 1 goal and 1 assist. Brandon Bark had 1 goal. Jake Uhlenbrock and Tyler Hess each had 1 assist.


Saturday  Jan. 17th    Troy vs.  Sylvania Southview    Won 8-2

Troy was playing in the second round of the Pioneer Classic and trying to bounce back from a first round loss. Southview drew first blood just 36 seconds into the game. Troy answered when Alex Smith took a Brandon Bark pass and buried it to tie it up. Alex scored again on his next shift to give Troy the 2-1 lead. Brandon Bark scored off an AJ Noll pass to make it a 3-1 game. Sylvania scored with 2 minutes left in the first to make it a 2-2 tie. Alex scored an unassisted goal  a few seconds later to bring the first to an end with the Trojans up 3-2 and giving Alex a hat trick in the first period.  The second period got underway the same way the first had ended with Troy scoring when Jake Uhlenbrock scored from the blue line with Alex Smith picking up the assist.  Troy Moore then scored from the blue line with Nate Uhlenbrock getting the assist. Tristan Meek then found the back of the net with Brandon Bark and AJ Noll getting the assists. The third period came to an end with Troy up 6-2.  The third started with Alex Smith scoring off a pass from Doug Eardly.  A short time later Alex scored again with Jake Uhlenbrock getting the assist. 

Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 6 of the 8 shots he saw.  Brandon Bark, Nate Uhlenbrock, Troy Moore and Tristan Meek had 1 goal each.  AJ Noll and Jake Uhlenbrock picked up 2 assists each. Brandon Bark and Doug Eardly had 1 assist each.   The big story of the game was Alex Smith.  Alex scored 5 goals and had 1 assist.  Alex reached the 100 point club for Troy High School record books, becoming the 12th player to reach that mark in Troy High School history. Congratulations to Alex on a monster game.


Friday  Jan. 16th    Troy vs. Olentangy      Lost 4-1

Troy was playing in the first round of the Pioneer Classic Tournament in Columbus and was matched against the Olentangy Braves.  After the first period there was no score. The second started off with the Braves scoring first in the second minute. The Braves scored again just two minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.  Troy answered when Prestyn Hoefler scored with Alex Smith picking up the assist with just over 2 minutes to go in the second.  The Braves scored midway through the third period and again on a power play with 1:12 to go in the game to give them the win 4-1.

Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 24 of the 28 shots he saw.


Sunday  Jan. 11th    Troy vs. N. Kentucky    Won 4-2

Troy was playing Northern Kentucky for the second time in two weeks.  They had previously tied in the second round of the Miami Valley Freeze.  This time Troy was determined to take control and that is what they did.  In the second minute of play Troy Moore took an Alex Smith pass and buried it from the blue line.  Tristan Meek then found a rebound and stuck it back in with Kasey Hennessy getting the assist to end the first.  The Norse scored early in the second period to make it a Troy lead at 2-1.  The third started with Brandon Bark scoring off a Doug Eardly and AJ Noll pass.  Troy Moore scored his second of the game again from the blue line.  Tyler Hess and AJ Noll each picked up the helpers.  The Norse scored in the last minute of the game, but it was too little too late.  Troy picked up the win 4-2.  Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 11 of the 13 shots.  Troy Moore had 2 goals.  Brandon Bark and Tristan each had 1 goal.  AJ Noll had 2 assists. Alex Smith, Doug Eardly and Tyler Hess each had 1 assist.


Saturday  Jan. 10th    Troy vs. Talawanda    Tied 4-4

Troy was playing a league foe for the first time this season in the Talawanda Braves.  The game started with Jake Uhlenbrock taking an AJ Noll pass and shooting a laser from down town on a power play.  The Braves goalie didn’t even see the puck until he was digging it out of the back of the net,  The Braves tied it up to end the first at 1-1.  The second found Troy sitting in the sin bin way too many times.  Four minor penalties and one major cost the Trojans.  At the end of the second period, Troy was down 4-1.  All of the scores came while Troy was killing off penalties.  The third started off with the Braves down a man. Then it was the Braves turn to sit even more, taking a 5 minute major.  Alex Smith took advantage of the situation scoring on a 5 on 3 with Troy Moore and Nate Uhlenbrock picking up the assists.  With only 2 minutes to go AJ slapped one in to make it a 4-3 deficit with Tyler Hess getting the assist.  With 57 seconds to go in the game Troy pulled the goalie to allow for 6 attackers.  It paid off when AJ Noll won an offensive zone face off and sent the puck directly back to Senior Captain Jake Uhlenbrock.  Jake sent another laser towards the net and again scored over the shoulder of the bewildered Braves net minder.  Troy had tied it all up with just 28 second in the game and saved an apparent loss.  Jake Uhlenbrock ended the game the same way he started it with a goal.  Jake had 2 goals for the game. AJ Noll had 1 goal and 2 assists.  Alex Smith had 1 goal. Tyler Hess had 2 assists. Troy Moore and Nate Uhlenbrock each had 1 assist.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 14 of the 18 shots he saw. 


Sunday  Jan. 4th    Troy vs. Findlay    Lost 9-1

Troy was playing in the Championship game of the Miami Valley Freeze and was taking on the Findlay Trojans.  Findlay had handled every opponent thus far and was 3-0 with only 6 goals scored on them in the tournament.  The first started out with Findlay scoring 3 times to take a 3-0 lead.  The second got underway with Troy scoring when AJ Noll took an Alex Smith pass and hit the goal from a sharp angle. Jake Uhlenbrock also picked up an assist; it was all Findlay after that, scoring 6 more times before the final buzzer went off.  Cory Neff was in the net and stopped 10 of the 15 shots he saw and Shaemus Nevin stopped 3 of the 7 shots he saw in the third period.  AJ Noll had the loan Troy goal with Alex Smith and Jake Uhlenbrock each getting an assist.


Saturday  Jan. 3rd    Troy vs. N. Kentucky    Tied 2-2

Troy was playing in the third round of the Miami Valley Freeze and was taking on the Norse from Northern Kentucky.  Troy scored in the first minute of the game when Doug Eardly scored on a Tyler Hess pass.  In the second period Troy again scored when Jake Uhlenbrock scored from down town with Nate Uhlenbrock and Tyler Hess picking up the assists.  The third period found N. Ky scoring twice in the first four minutes to tie everything up at 2-2.  Troy had numerous power plays but just could capitalize.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 20 of the 22 shots he saw.  Doug Eardly and Jake Uhlenbrock each had one goal.  Tyler Hess had 2 assists and Nate Uhlenbrock had 1 assist.


Saturday  Jan. 3rd    Troy vs. Jackson    Lost 2-1

Troy was playing in the second round of the Miami Valley Freeze and was taking on the Jackson Polar Bears.  Troy scored first when Troy Moore took a pass from AJ Noll and Alex Smith to score on a power play.  Jackson scored a few minutes later to end the first 1-1.  The second found Jackson scoring to give them a 2-1 lead.  No one scored in the third and Troy fell 2-1.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 18 of the 20 shots thrown at him.  Troy Moore had 1 goal.  AJ Noll and Alex Smith each picked up an assist.


Friday  Jan. 2nd    Troy vs. Beavercreek     Won 9-3

Troy was playing in the first round of the Miami Valley Freeze and was taking on Beavercreek for the third time in the season.  Troy started out the scoring first when Caleb Mangas had his shot deflect off of a defender and in to give Troy the early lead in the second minute of play. AJ Noll scored with Tyler Hess and Troy Moore picking up the assists to make it a 2-0 Troy lead.  The second period started off with Creek scoring before Alex Smith hit the net with Tyler Hess and John Wehrkamp getting the assists to make it a 3-1 Trojan lead.  Creek then scored two goals in less than 60 seconds to tie it up.  AJ Noll then went end to end on an unassisted goal to give Troy back the lead for good.  Alex Smith scored with Tyler Hess picking up the assist.  Doug Eardly hit the net on a nice pass from AJ Noll to make it a 6-3 game.  The third was all Troy starting with AJ Noll scoring on a great pass from Tyler Hess.  Doug Eardly then scored from a Jake Uhlenbrock pass to give Troy an 8-3 lead.  Doug wasn’t finished yet; he blocked an attempted breakout pass and beat the goalie to make it 9-3 in favor of the Trojans. 

Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 11 of the 14 shots he saw.  AJ Noll had 3 goals and 1 assist.  Doug Eardly had 3 goals. Alex Smith had 2 goals and 1 assist.  Caleb Mangas had 1 goal and 1 assist. Tyler Hess had 3 assists. Jake Uhlenbrock, Nate Uhlenbrock, Troy Moore and Johnny Wehrkamp each picked up 1 assist.


Sunday  Dec. 28th Troy vs. Springboro     Lost 7-1

Troy was playing in the final round of the Mayor's Cup and was taking on the Springboro Panthers in a game that was also a league match up.  Springboro scored first in the second minute of the game. Troy answered when Alex Smith went coast to coast with Tyler Hess picking up the assist.  The Panthers scored again to make it a 2-1 Panther lead to end the first.  Boro scored two more times in the second to give them a 4-1 lead.  The third found more of the same when Boro scored 3 more times to give them a 7-1 lead and the game.  Cory Neff went the first and second periods and stopped 14 of 18 shots.  Shaemus Nevin played the third and stopped 5 of 8 shots.   Alex Smith picked up the loan goal for Troy with Tyler Hess getting the assist.


Saturday  Dec. 27th Troy vs. Beavercreek     Won 5-2

Troy was playing in the second round of the Dayton Mayor's Cup and was taking on  the Beavercreek Beavers.  Troy started off poorly when they picked up two penalties in the first 2 minutes of the game.  That didn't matter to the Trojans and Brandon Bark scored a shorty to give Troy the early 1-0 lead.  A few moments later Doug Eardly scored again on the second shorty of the game to give Troy the 2-0 lead.  The Beavers scored in the final minute of the first to make it a 2-1 Troy lead.  Doug Eardly scored again with Alex Smith picking up the assist.  Tyler Hess scored with Alex Smith picking up that helper too.  At the end of the second Troy was in control and was up 4-1. Beavercreek scored to start out the 3rd period and Doug Eardly scored to give him his first career hat trick and giving Troy the 5-2 lead.  Doug Eardly had 3 goals. Brandon Bark and Tyler Hess each picked up a goal and Alex Smith had two assists.  Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 21 of 23 short to get the win.



Friday  Dec. 26th Troy vs. Centerville     Lost 6-1

Troy traveled to the Kettering Rec Center to play a league game in the first round of the Dayton Mayor's Cup.  Troy was returning as last years champions.  The Trojans started off well when AJ Noll took a Tyler Hess pass and buried it to give Troy the lead 1-0.  The Elk answered when they evened things up two minutes later.  The first ended in a 1-1 tie.  The second started out slow with both teams picking up penalties.  Neither team could capitalize until the Elk scored the go ahead goal.  The second ended 2-1 in favor of Centerville.  The third period was a different story.  The Elk scored 4 unanswered goals to give them a 6-1 lead.  The Trojans never gave up, but could only muster 6 shots on goal in the final 15 minutes.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 18 of the 24 shots he saw.  AJ Noll had the loan Troy goal and Tyler Hess picked up the assist.

 

 

 Sunday Dec. 21st      Troy vs. Indian Hills      Won 5-2

 Troy was taking on the Indian Hills Indians for the third time.  In the last meeting, the Indians had taken the championship trophy from the Trojans in the Frozen Creek Championship game and the Trojans were looking for some payback.  Troy scored first when Tyler Hess took an AJ Noll pass and hit the net to make it a 1-0 game. Doug Eardly took another AJ Noll pass and scored to make it a 2-0 game. Hills scored on a re-direct to end the first with Troy on top 2-1.  Alex Smith scored with Prestyn Hoefler and Tyler Hess getting the assists. AJ Noll scored on a power play with Alex Smith getting the helper to make it a 4-1 game in favor of Troy.  Jake Uhlenbrock snipped a laser from the blue line with AJ Noll picking up the assist to give Troy a 5-1 lead to end the second period.  Hills scored with 1 minute to go to make it a 5-2 final.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 24 of 26 shots.  AJ Noll had 1 goal and 3 assists. Alex Smith had 1 goal and 1 assist. Jake Uhlenbrock, Doug Eardly and Kasey Hennessy each had 1 goal.  Tyler Hess and Brandon Bark each picked up an assist,

Troy is now 2-2 in the league and 7-4 overall. 

 

Saturday Dec. 20th     Troy vs. Springboro      Lost 7-1

Troy was playing the Springboro Panthers at Hobart Arena and it was all Springboro.  The panthers came at Troy with pressure and the Trojans had trouble getting it out of their own zone. Springboro took an early 2-0 lead and added 4 more in the second to take a commanding 6-0 lead.  AJ Noll erased the goose egg when he scored to make it a 6-1 Panther lead.  Assists went to Nate Uhlenbrock and Tyler Hess. Boro scored again in the last minute of the game to make it a 7-1 final. Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 21 of the 28 shots he saw.

 


Friday Dec. 19th       Troy vs. LaSalle      Won 7-1

Troy was playing their first of two league games of the weekend when they took on the LaSalle Lancers from Cincinnati.  The Lancers struck first beating tender Cory Neff to take the early lead.  Troy then responded when Brandon Bark took a Jake Uhlenbrock pass and buried it to even things up. The second period started with Alex Smith going coast to coast giving Troy their first lead. Tyler Hess then added one with Troy Moore picking up the helper.  Kasey Hennessy joined in when he scored from the blue line to give the Trojans a 4-1 lead. The third period started quickly when AJ Noll scored on a rebound with Doug Eardly and Kasey Hennessy getting the assists. Alex Smith banged in a rebound and Tyler Hess sniped one to make it a 7-1 Troy lead.  Cory Neff was in the goal and stopped 13 of 14 shots.  Alex Smith had 2 goals. Tyler Hess has 2 goals and 1 assist.  Kasey Hennessy, AJ Noll and Brandon Bark each had 1 goal.  Jake Uhlenbrock, Troy Moore, Doug Eardly and Tyler Hess each picked up assists.


Sunday Dec. 14th Troy vs. St. Xavier     Lost 6-2

Troy was playing their first home game and it was a league matchup with an always tough St. Xavier Bombers out of Cincinnati.  Troy scored first in the second minute of play when Brandon Bark took a Doug Eardly pass and beat the goalie high glove side.  St. X then scored three unanswered goals beating Troy’s goalie Shaemus Nevin high over both shoulders.  The first period came to a close with the Bombers up 3-1.  The second period found the bombers again going top shelf over the Troy goalie to make it a 4-1 game.  A puck bounced off a Troy skate and trickled in to make it 5-1.  Troy tried to muster up some offense when AJ Noll hit Brandon Bark for his second of the night to bring Troy back to a 5-2 deficit, but St. X answered right back to make it 6-2.  The second period came to a close with St. X up on Troy 6-2.  The third period Troy played better defense, but just couldn’t find the net.  After not scoring in the third period, the game ended 6-2.  Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 20 of the 26 shots he faced.  Brandon Bark had 2 goals. Doug Eardly had 1 assist and AJ Noll picked up the last assist to give him 100 points for his high school career.  The Trojans are now 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in the league.  Troy takes on LaSalle, Springboro and Indian Hills in the next week.


Saturday Dec. 13th      Troy vs. Findlay     Lost 10-1

Troy was playing the Findlay Trojans at the Cube in Findlay.  Findlay has been picked as an early season top 10 team in the state and they looked like it as they took the ice.  They started the scoring on their first shift and just coming. By the end of the first period, the score was 5-0 with Troy only getting one shot on goal.  The second period was more of the same with Findlay scoring 2 more times to make it a 7-0 game to end the second.  The third period found Findlay again scoring 2 more times before AJ Noll scored to make it a 10-1 game.  Shaemus Nevin was in the goal and stopped 28 of 38 shots.  Troy could only muster 11 shots.


 Friday  Dec. 12th Troy vs. Sycamore     Won 6-3

Troy traveled to Cincinnati to play a league team in a non-league game in the Sycamore Aviators from the Gold division of the SWOHSHL.  Troy scored their first goal of the night in the second minute of the game when Doug Eardly scored off a pass from Tristan Meek and Jake Uhlenbrock. A short time later Prestyn Hoefler found the back of the net on an AJ Noll pass with Jake Uhlenbrock picking up his second assist to make it a 2-0 Troy lead. Doug Eardly got his second score of the night with 15 seconds to go in the first to give Troy a 3-0 lead.  The second found AJ Noll scoring with Troy Moore and Brandon Bark picking up the helpers. AJ Noll returned the favor on the next shift when he hit Brandon Bark in front of the goal and Brandon buried it to make it a 5-0 game. Tyler Hess joined the fun when he shot a laser that the Aves goalie didn't even see. Isaiah Purses and Alex Smith picked up the assists.  Sycamore scored on a rebound that goalie Cory Neff left in front of the net to make it a 6-1 game to end the second period.  Troy's defense struggled to communicate and lost track of a few rebounds that allowed the Aves to score 2 more times in the third period to make it a 6-3 final score.  Cory Neff was in the crease and stopped 16 of the 19 shots he saw.  Doug Eardly had 2 goals and 1 assist.  AJ Noll had 1 goal and 2 assists. Brandon Bark, Prestyn Hoefler and Tyler Hess each had a goal. Troy Moore and Jake Uhlenbrock each had 2 assists.  Tristan Meek, Brandon Bark, Caleb Mangas and Isaiah Purves each had 1 assist. 


Troy is now 5 wins and 1 loss and travels to Findlay on Saturday and hosts St. Xavier on Sunday. 

Saturday Dec. 7th Troy vs. Alter     Won 7-1

Troy was playing their first league match-up of the season and were taking on the Alter Knights who play in the Gold division of the SWOHSHL, while the Trojans play in the Red division. The game was being played at South Metro in Springboro, OH.  Troy started things off in the first when Tyler Hess scored from a pass from Alex Smith and Prestyn Hoefler.  The Trojans were moving the puck well, but could not get the look at the goal they wanted and ended the first period only up 1-0.  Troy scored two goals within 11 seconds of each other when Freshman defense man Nate Uhlenbrock shot a rocket from the blue line with Doug Eardly picking up the helper. Doug Eardly then scored off a backdoor pass from AJ Noll to put Troy up 3-0.  Alter answered when they forced in a rebound on goalie Cory Neff to give them their only score of the day. Prestyn Hoefler found the back of the net on a pass from Tyler Hess to put Troy up 4-1.  Brandon Bark light the lamp off a Troy Moore pass to put Troy up 5-1 to end the second period. Prestyn Hoefler was on fire and made the Knights pay when he hit a top shelf dinger to make it a 6-1 game. Alex Smith finished off the scoring when he beat the goalie high glove side with Tyler Hess picking up the assist to make it a 7-1 game. Troy was in control of the game, but the Alter goalie stopped many of the shots and rebounds that Troy threw at him.  Cory Neff was in the goal the entire game and stopped 16 of the 17 shots he saw.  Prestyn Hoefler had 2 goals. Tyler Hess had 1 goal and 3 assists.  Alex Smith had 1 goal and 2 assists.  Nate Uhlenbrock had 1 goal and 1 assist. Doug Eardly and Brandon Bark each had 1 goal.  Troy Moore and AJ Noll each picked up an assist.   Troy outshot Alter 48 to 17.



Sunday  Nov. 30th   Troy vs. Indian Hills        Lost    6-3 

 

The Troy Trojans were playing the Indian Hills Indians for the second time in 24 hours.  They had beaten the Indians 4-2 in the third round of the Frozen Creek Tournament and were now facing them in the Championship game.  Troy scored first at the 7:10 mark when Alex Smith rang the bell with Prestyn Hoefler and Tyler Hess picking up the assists.  Troy was dominating the ice out-shooting Hills 13-7, but Troy could not find the back of the net. Hills scored to even things up and that’s how the first period ended locked at 1-1.  The second period was one of those periods that Troy would rather forget about.  7 penalties were called on Troy including a 5 minutes major that allowed Hills to play 5 on 3 for four complete minutes. Troy skated with 5 skaters on the ice for only 4 minutes of the 15 minute period and allowed 5 power play goals. At the end of the second period Hills had built a commanding 6-1 lead.  The  Trojans were not going to give up and again out-shot the Indians in the third period 11-3.  Brandon Bark scored his first Varsity goal with the assists going to Doug Eardly and AJ Noll.  AJ Noll scored with the assists going to Alex Smith and Doug Eardly to make it a 6-3 game.  Troy out skated, out shot and out played the Indians, but just could not stay out of the box and that is something that the Trojans will need to work on and address if they want to compete.   Shaemus Nevin was in the net and stopped 20 of 26 shots.  Troy out shot Hills 37 to 26.

Alex Smith had 1 goal and 1 assist.  AJ Noll had 1 goal and 1 assist.  Brandon Bark had 1 goal and Doug Eardly had 2 assists.  Tyler Hess and Prestyn Hoefler each picked up an assist.

The Trojans are now 3 and 1 on the season and play Alter in their first League Match Up next Sunday.  

 


Saturday Nov. 29th Troy vs. Indian Hills     Won 4-2


Troy was playing the third game of the Frozen Creek Tournament and was taking on Indian Hills for just the second time in school history.  Last season Troy defeated Hills 4-2.  Indian Hills Club plays out of the Cincinnati League and is expected to be one of the top contenders to win their league.  Hills started out fast and scored in the second minute of the game.  Troy responded when Tyler Hess took an AJ Noll pass and beat the goalie high glove side to tie it up at 1-1 and that's how the first period ended.  The second period found Jake Uhlenbrock taking an AJ Noll pass and hitting a clapper from outside to give Troy their first lead of the day. The second period ended with Troy on top 2-1.   in the third, Tristan Meek caught the goalie sleeping when he hit a high glove side shot that the goalie didn't see until he was fetching out of the net to give Troy a 3-1 lead.  AJ Noll kept things rolling when he scored from the high slot to give Troy a 4-1 lead halfway through the third.  Hills tried to stay alive when they scored with 3 minutes to go to make it 4-2, but Troy settled down and moved the puck well and played tenacious defense to run the clock out.

Shaemus Nevin was in the goal the entire game and stopped 17 of 19 shots he saw to pick up his third victory of the season. 

AJ Noll had 1 goal and 2 assists. Jake Uhlenbrock had 1 goal and 1 assist.  Tyler Hess and Tristan Meek each had a goal.  Brandon Bark also picked up an assist.

 

Troy will now play the same Indian Hills team in the Championship game on Sunday at Kettering Rec Center to determine the Frozen Creek Tournament Champion for 2014.

 


Saturday  Nov. 28th   Troy vs. Maumee        Won    11-0

 

 

Troy was playing their second game of the day in the Frozen Creek Tournament and was taking on Maumee from the Northwest Conference out of Toledo. Troy came out fast when Tyler Hess found the back of the net from a pass from Troy Moore.  Kasey Hennessy then scored from the blue line from a pass from AJ Noll. Tyler hit his second of the period from an Alex Smith pass.  AJ Noll scored from a Doug Eardly pass.  Troy was moving the puck and shooting from all angles.  The first period ended with Troy up 4-0.  Jake Uhlenbrock started the second period off with a blast from the outside from an Alex Smith pass to make it 5-0.  AJ Noll scored from a Doug Eardly pass to make it 6-0. Caleb Mangas scored his varsity goal when he caught the goalie asleep and sent one in from the blue line to end the second period with Troy up 7-0.  The third started with Charlie Ryan getting his first varsity goal just 45 seconds into the period. Doug Eardly scored on a backdoor pass from Alex Smith.  AJ Noll scored an unassisted goal and Jake Uhlenbrock scored to put Troy up 11-0.

Shaemus Nevin played the first and the second periods, before exiting so that Cory Neff could get into the crease.  Shaemus stopped all 3 shots that he saw and Cory stopped both shots he saw.

Troy outshot Maumee 47-5.

Saturday  Nov. 28th   Troy vs. Beavercreek        Won    6-2 

 

The Troy Trojans were starting the 2014-2015 regular season off playing in the Frozen Creek Tournament and were returning as last year’s Champions.  The first game paired the Beavercreek Beavers against the Trojans. Scoring started off on the second shift of the night, when Junior AJ Noll grabbed a rebound from Senior Brandon Bark and hit the back of the net to put Troy up 1-0.  Creek scored with just 20 seconds to go in the first when creek took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Troy defense when a puck bounced of a defender’s skate into Troy’s goal to make it to a 1-1 game.  The second period started off well for Troy when AJ Noll lite the lamp on a nice pass from Junior Doug Eardly and Junior Troy Moore.  AJ Noll returned the favor to Doug Eardly with a backdoor pass that Eardly slapped in to make it a 3-1 Troy lead.  Creek answered a few shifts later to make it 3-2 in favor of the Trojans.  Junior Tyler Hess then shot a laser past the Creek goalie with Senior Alex Smith getting the helper. That made it a 4-2 game. Alex Smith hit the net from a pass from Tyler Hess and Sophomore Prestyn Hoefler.  Freshman Tristan Meek then got his first goal as a varsity player on a deflection from Senior Kasey Hennessy to put Troy up 6-2.  The third was a physical period with both teams picking a few penalties, but neither team could capitalize and the game ended with Troy picking up the victory 6-2.  Freshman Shaemus Nevin was in the goal giving up two goals on 19 shots. Troy outshot Creek 22-19.

AJ Noll had 2 goals and 1 assist. Doug Eardly had 1 goal and 1 assist. Tyler Hess had 1 goal and 1 assist. Alex Smith had 1 goal and 1 assist. Tristan Meek had 1 goal. Brandon Bark, Troy Moore, Charlie Ryan, Prestyn Hoefler and Jake Uhlenbrock each picked up 1 assist each.
