Trojan Hall of Fame Inductees 2011

posted Nov 28, 2011, 12:20 PM by Kevin Ringus

The Booster Club‟s Alumni Committee is working closely with the administration to honor alumni, staff, & community members. The 2011 inductees to the Trojan Hall of Fame were honored at Homecoming just prior to kickoff.

We honored
Frank Gustafson: Frank started at Fife as a science teacher in 1949.  Twenty-eight years later, he retired as a student counselor.  In 1960, Frank brought an idea back from WSU and was the founding chairman of what we now call the Fife High School Scholarship Foundation.  Students at Fife continue to benefit from Frank’s vision fifty years ago.

Joe Burgi:  Joe’s family moved into the community in 1948 and Joe has been well known throughout the area ever since.  Joe spent 16 years on the Milton City Council and worked closely with the Fife School Board and the superintendent to improve our schools and community.  These last 31 years, Joe and his family have been the owner/operator of the renowned Pick Quick Drive-In.  Joe has devoted many years coaching little league, has hired hundreds of Fife students at the drive-in, and has always been a strong supporter of the Trojans and the community.

Louise (Mueller) Hospenthal: Louise graduated from Fife High School in 1958 and has been an active, tireless alum ever since.  She helped establish the Alumni Association in 1970 and re-ignite it, again, this year.  Louise served on the Fife School Board from 1980 – 1996 and was president for ten of those years.  These past six years she has guided the Fife Historical Society.

Frank Wright, Jr:  Frank graduated in the Class of 1971 from Fife High School.  In 1988, Frank was Chair of the Puyallup Tribal Council when negotiations began on what is now referred to as “the Land Claims Settlement”.  This agreement continues to frame negotiations between the Puyallup Tribe and local governments.  For the past 13 years, Frank has served as General Manager for the Emerald Queen Casino properties.  The strong success of the Emerald Queen Casino is attributed to Frank’s leadership and has a major impact on the well-being of the Tribe, its members, and the Fife-Milton community.

Dr W. Carl Stegman:  In 1966, Dr. Stegman became the superintendent of the Fife School District.  He served as top administrator of the district for 14 years, retiring in 1980.  Carl continued to serve the community on the Fife City Council from 1989-1992 and as Mayor of Fife from 1992-1995.  He always believed that combining top-notch schools with the citizens of Fife and Milton was second-to-none, something that is still true today.
