Leslie D. Jones, MA, Special Education

23 years of teaching experience in the public schools, private schools, and home schooling

Leslie Jones earned her BA from the University of California, Irvine.  After working several years in public relations for a California Assemblyman and then for The Salvation Army as a grant writer and fund raiser, she returned to school to get her Elementary Bi-Lingual, Multi-Cultural Teacher's Credential from California State University, Sacramento. 

After doing her practicum in Elementary School she added English to her credential and went to work teaching Middle School English and Social Studies. In her last year of teaching in California, she taught speech and debate in High School and took her team to state finals. 

Her first child was born in 1991.  Soon after, she and her husband moved to Florida.  Two children later she began home schooling.   After several years, she returned to the public school system and earned a Master's Degree in special Education from the University of South Florida. She taught gifted and regular education Middle School and Elementary School.

In 2006, she left the public school system and returned home to school her two youngest through Middle School and High School. 

She is an experienced tutor for struggling readers and uses multi-sensory approaches to teaching.  She is a test examiner at FSCJ and has been testing for HERI as well as private students.  She is experienced with Florida dual enrollment and portfolio evaluations.

Leslie has a passion for home schooling. As the administrator of TriStrands Academy, she will be able to use her knowledge, skills, and experiences to serve other home schooling families.
