Memphis, TN  (WMC-TV) - From an upstairs room inside his Cordova home, amateur radio operator

Tom Medlin is used to talking to people from around the globe.

But so far, his greatest accomplishment has been the recent communication he established

with the International Space Station, and Commander Douglas Wheelock.

"I remember my first contact with him it was like, 'Wow, this is great.

I talked to the commander of the space station.'" Medlin said.

Over the past several weeks, Medlin, who works as the head of international telecommunications at

FedEx's Latin division, has spoken to Wheelock 27 times.

They've discussed everything from weightlessness to the view from space.

During one conversation, the discussion turned to Memphis barbeque.

"I'm ready for it," Wheelock said during the conversation, which Medlin recorded.  "Is it Corky's up there?"

Medlin hopes to meet Wheelock someday.  In the meantime, he's already making plans to

FedEx some Corky's barbeque to the Johnson Space Center in Houston in time for Wheelock's return to Earth.

Wheelock is scheduled to depart the International Space Station at the end of the month.
