Hello folks...

Meetings are back and we’re starting off with a bang.  Tuesday, Dr. Brant Inman will join us to talk about “Bladder Cancer Comparative Oncology”.   Dr. Inman is a Cary N. Robertson Associate Professor of Urologic Oncology and Vice Chief of Urology at Duke University Medical Center. If you check out his CV, you’ll find a list or authored publications, editorials and abstracts a mile long. He has contributed to the Environmental Protection Agency and Food and Drug Administration advisory boards. As a professor to Residents and medical students, you can expect a real treat.

We are also thinking about opportunities to give back. Serving dinner at the SECU Family house this year was a rewarding experience and extremely well received by the residents.  Let’s think about doing it again, maybe at the Caring House in Durham or other ideas are welcomed as well.

2019 Bladder Cancer Retreat

Here is the info on the retreat and lodging.  I am waiting to hear back about how you register and pay for the retreat part.

The 2019 BC retreat will be held the weekend of Sept 27/28.  at the Smoky Falls Lodge in Maggie Valley, NC.  Room information and rates are attached.  If you call in, please call 877-926-7440 for reservations.  If you tell them you are with the Bladder Cancer group you will receive $10 off each night from the rates posted. There is an 11% tax on top of the rates.  Please make your reservations early as we expect the rooms to go fast.  Pictures are posted on Trip Advisor as well as the Smoky Falls Website.  Let me know what room you have taken so I can let others know when the room availability is getting scarce.  We hope that most people will plan to stay 2 nights as that was the assumption when we received the reduced rate.

You will need to hold the reservation with a credit card but can cancel within a couple weeks of the retreat if necessary.  Please review their policies.

Meals - this rate does not include meals but there is an attached restaurant as well as very close local options.  Lunch on Saturday will be included with the retreat cost.

Pets are generally not allowed but there are a few rooms that they can be kept in.  The additional charge is $100 for the 2 nights.  The pet may only be in the room, no other areas at all period.  Please review this information when calling in.

Ladies attending alone - I have taken the 3 bedroom apartment and would be happy to share the rate with 2 others.  I would prefer ladies who are staying at least 2 nights.  I will be there for 3.  Please reach out to me separately if interested.

The retreat will be $35 per person in 2019.  Please note that this includes lunch on Saturday, tax and tip, beverages etc for the meet and greet Friday, meeting room rental, booklet printing,  etc.

Nancy has checked out the lodge and seen several rooms.  I have spoken with the manager about costs etc and we feel that this is much more affordable than the ranch.  We will have meetings and lunch there on Saturday and come up with a variety of options for activities for Friday for those interested.

We hope that you all plan to join us for the 11th year of this event.
