Since 1977 I've been designing and building rocking chairs, dining chairs, stools, small tables, and other furnishings. I am self-taught and work
mainly with hand tools, out of a small home-based shop in west-central Idaho. I use primarily American hardwoods, usually walnut or cherry.
Line, form, and proportion are the main elements of interest to me in furniture design. I began by making rough chairs derived from Shaker designs, and still appreciate their clean lines and simple beauty. I've also been heavily influenced by the same elements, in modern translation, in the work of Sam Maloof, Art Carpenter, George Nakashima and others in the Danish Modern style.
I'm now retired and no longer making furniture.
