Transportation Research Board's Standing Committee on Landscape and Environmental Design (AFB40) is requesting submissions for their poster session.

AFB40 invites you to submit your work as part of a poster session at TRB’s 2019 annual meeting in Washington, DC on January 13-17, 2019.  This year's spotlight theme for the annual meeting is Transportation for a Smart, Sustainable and Equitable Future. The committee is most interested in research or design work which demonstrates this theme. Other landscape and environmental design projects or research will be considered. This poster session and the process used to apply for participation is separate from the traditional peer-reviewed paper process utilized by TRB, and is designed to promote more project-specific examples of innovative and/or successful environmental practices in transportation. Please note that only posters meeting these general criteria or similar environmental process project examples will be considered by this committee.

TRB AFB40 is now accepting abstracts for presentation at the 2019 TRB Annual Meeting poster sessions. Abstracts must be no more than 500 words, and should contain the following:
  • Full title
  • Primary/secondary presenter name(s) with complete contact information (mailing address, phone, fax, e-mail)
  • A concise statement of the project or study objective
  • Notable practices, approaches or lessons learned
  • Current or anticipated results or outcomes
  • Significance and implications of the results or outcomes
  • If applicable, recommendations for future research.
Abstracts must be submitted electronically no later than Friday, September 14, 2018.

Following review of all abstracts, the committee will notify primary authors of their selection status on or about Sunday, October 1, 2018. Applicants whose abstracts are accepted for presentation during a poster session must provide a draft mock-up of the poster for general comment by no later than Wednesday, December 6, 2018, although a final submittal is not necessary until the actual date of the poster session.

Further information about guidance for the poster sessions is available at   Note: Abstracts received after the September 15 deadline will not be included in the proceedings and will not be scheduled for poster presentation at the annual meeting.

Our committee has found that poster sessions offer a great opportunity for interaction and a showcase for innovative ideas and projects in landscape and environmental design.  Our poster sessions at past annual meetings were great successes, and the committee will continue poster sessions as an annual event to complement our paper review and presentation process. Don’t miss this opportunity to show your work to thousands of transportation professionals! If you are selected to present a poster at the meeting in January, please be available to register for the conference and to come to Washington, D.C. to provide further details on the poster and answer any questions that attendees may have.

Please submit your abstracts and mock-ups to Robert LaRoche PLA, at or Ming-Han Li at
Please be sure to include the words “TRB AFB40 Poster Session Application” in the subject line of all emails.
