San Francisco Seed Library - Trial Run

posted Oct 4, 2010, 11:53 AM by ania moniuszko   [ updated Oct 4, 2010, 11:55 AM ]

TransitionSF is working on creating a Seed Library in San Francisco. We need your help on 10/10/10.

Come borrow seeds from the library and plant them in your garden. Give us feedback on the lending process, so that we can incorporate it at our first branch.

Come and give us seeds, especially those that were collected in SF. We're looking to seed our first branch with as many seeds from San Francisco as possible.

Come help us make signs and posters for the library.

Our trial run is to work through the process and make sure that we get feedback from as many San Franciscans as possible.

The official launch of our first branch will be in spring 2011, just a few months from now. We're working with many people and organizations to make this happen.

Event Website: http://www.350.org/node/23509

How to Get Involved Planning the Event: contact ania@transitionsf.org to volunteer. We need artists to help create signs and posters.

Event Host: The San Francisco Seed Library is a project of TransitionSF. We're working with Hayes Valley Farm, Permaculture Guild, SF Public Library and others to make this happen. We're launching our first branch in Spring 2011 and rolling out additional branches after the process and trial at first branch is successful. On 10/10/10, we're doing a trial run of the seed library to get feedback from users, so please come and get some seeds or donate seeds.

Kitchen Garden Installations

posted Aug 29, 2010, 3:22 PM by ania moniuszko

Recently, KitchenGardenSF started with the mission
to help people install, learn about, and cultivate kitchen gardens in their back yards all over
San Francisco.

On October 10, 2010, which is 10/10/10, there will be a global day of
actions inspired by www.350.org.

If you're interested in participating in KitchenGardenSF's garden
challenge -- to install 350 kitchen gardens in San Francisco on
10/10/10 -- either as a volunteer or to register a garden action,
please go to kitchengardensf.org. It is not a large committment, but a
very important one to gain momentum toward a food system that is
equitable, sustainable and providing nutrition rather than just calories.

If you'd like to organize your neighbors to plant their own kitchen
gardens
on 10/10/10 (which can be as simple as planting lettuce
seedlings in a pot on a deck), please contact Lynda Smith at
lynda@kitchengardensf.org.

A working group that we established around food will be meeting on Monday at 7 PM to further discuss matters. We'll be figuring out how to move towards the goals that we set, including:

- Getting Transitioners and like communities to subscribe to CSA boxes
- Developing a full picture of the different food-focused groups in
the Bay
- Getting businesses to more effectively support local agriculture

The meeting will be at 1571 Fulton St. (The Sunshine Caste) and should last till 9 or so.

Hope to see everyone there!
