Problem Based Learning Workshop Participants
From: VP of DPBL
Subject: Welcome

Welcome to our Problem-Based Learning (PBL) workshop.  We have found that using PBL in our courses has

  • increased student engagement,
  • supported students' problem solving skills, and
  • helped students manage situations they will encounter in "real world"  work situations.

We are excited to help you incorporate Problem-Based Learning into your instruction.

The PBL strategies you will be introduced to may take you out of your comfort zone and push you to think in new ways. However, we are certain that you will enjoy creating your own PBL scenario and will find the process rewarding. You will be well supported by colleagues who will help you through this process, so whatever difficulties you may encounter will be overshadowed by the knowledge that this way of teaching provides a more engaging learning environment and deeper student learning.

Our desire is that you make this project your priority by contributing to your team and producing quality, finished products on time.   We will assign specific Tasks & Assignments for you or your team to complete. Follow the task link on the left to discover the details of each task. Be certain to review the Requirements section for each task or sub-task before you embark on your solution. Resources have been gathered for you to study as you complete the Tasks assigned. If you have suggestions for additional resources, please post them to the Forums area. After you have completed each task, review Debrief questions to confirm your learning and understanding of the task.

This is a fast-paced working environment. We hope you will enjoy and be up to the challenge. Welcome aboard!
