Overview
In this Tutorial, you will build the basic Red Hull pictured to the left, created by
Dekka Zabaleta. We are working towards the green boat on the right which you will will complete in Tutorial 2

Tutorial 1 - Basic Hull Building

Tutorial 2 - Sails and Rigging from the BBK

Let's take a closer look at what we are going to make. This basic hull has 4 prims.

And they are all Linked together into one Object. Notice that all are highlighted in blue (when in edit mode) except one prim which is in yellow. The Yellow prim is called the a "Root Prim". Understanding what is a Root Prim and where it is located is very important !!! (more on Root Prim go here)

Lets Get Busy

Find an empty place on the beach, or work in the free TYC Boat Builder's skybox  (more about Boat Builder's Skybox)

Important!!!  The exact size is important because it will fit with the rigging we are going to put on this boat later.

this is the front of the boat, you might want to move it down a bit so it sits on the floor

Finally we'll make it Red in colour

Click the TEXTURE tab

click the wood texture and you get the search box - type MEDIA in the box and click DEFAULT MEDIA TEXTURE- the bows go grey click SELECT

Touch the Default texture button and it goes white

(whichever you use stick with it. The DEFAULT MEDIA TEXTURE will give you a slightly darker red because of the grey under layer)

------------------------------------------
4) CHECK

-------------------------------------------

This is the basic boat,

Right click and edit then move it slightly up and down to see if any parts don't move.  If they don't you need link them up. But first think where do you want your Root Prim to be (that needs to be touch last when linking)

a)  Linking up any unlinked objects of hull

Right Click, Edit unlinked object that is NOT to be a root prim, SHIFT touch other objects not linked leaving the intended Root Prim last
CTRL L to link all objects together.

b)  Click the GENERAL tab and type your name and BOAT 1
eg  "MyBoat 1 (Basic Hull finished)"
 Close the window

c)  Right click the boat and TAKE
now find it in inventory and rezz a copy

FURTHER WORK

You can change parts of the boat by right click and EDIT
then EDIT LINKED PARTS

Touch one prim to edit that prim alone.  Try changing the colour

change the textures using SELECT TEXTURE

change the shapes by altering the X Y and Z sizes

If you don't like it or you mess up don't worry it's only a copy you can delete it and you still have the original

If you want to give it away don't forget to set the permissions as you want them eg MODIFY yes COPY yes TRANSFER no etc
