  • Ian Bennett - Smaller Railways of Britain

Our 2016 TRAC Model Railway Exhibition was held on Saturday 5th November.  The show was opened by Michael Stanier, grandson of Sir William Stanier.

There's an illustrated report here.

Our nearest station is Axminster. This is now the usual passing place for the hourly Waterloo to Exeter trains.

Thorncombe Railway Activities Club (TRAC) was formed in 2000 and serves a varied and growing membership living in West Dorset, East Devon and South Somerset.

We meet at Thorncombe Village Hall in West Dorset which is conveniently close to the border with Devon and Somerset. The towns of Seaton, Lyme Regis, Honiton, Chard, Bridport, Axminster, Ilminster and Crewkerne are only a short distance away.

Our meetings are held monthly, generally on the third Wednesday of the month, and usually consist of a speaker and presentation on a railway-related topic, followed by a refreshment break, then a question and answer session.

Pacific approaches with a London train while a local down service waits. The Lyme Regis branch train is in the bay to
the right.

There are also displays of railway interest provided by members, we have a collection of videos and DVDs available to members, and railway magazines are brought along to recycle to others. A prize raffle is held, and all proceeds from this and membership fees go towards the hire of the hall and paying
the cost of our guest speakers.

Our members have varied interests, so whether you build model railways or prefer the real thing, or have a particular interest in steam, diesel or electric railways, we are sure you will find membership of TRAC to be enjoyable. All are welcome; members under 14 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Annual Membership is £10.00 and is open to everyone.  This includes admission to all meetings held at the Village Hall, and the opportunity to take part in TRAC trips to outside attractions in July and August. If you don't wish to join us or wish to attend an individual meeting you may pay £3.00 on the door.
