Tri-M Honor Society

The Tri-M (Modern, Music, and Masters) Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership.

 

Tri-M meets on the first Monday of each month from (October through May) in room 158 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm.

 

To become a member of Tri-M, students must:

  • Be enrolled in a music class at THS
  • Maintain a 3.0 overall (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Maintain an "A" in their music class/es, and
  • Attend monthly meetings.

 

Applications for Tri-M membership are due to Mr. Olin on the first Monday in December. Applicants should attend all meetings, listen to the morning announcements, and see Mr. Olin (jolin@bcps.org) for information. The application form is located at the bottom of this page.

 

Applications are available at the October and November meetings or you can download an application from the bottom of this page. Inductions occur in April.

  • October - 1st meeting of the year
  • November and December - Guest speakers and fun activities
  • January - Tri-M Coffee House
  • February - Tri-M Recital. Room 255, 7-9pm
  • March – “Music In Our School” Month
  • April - Induction of new members
  • May - Election of new officers.  Room 158, 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Please view the attached file regarding officer elections. This is a required meeting for all Tri-M members.

Description of Tri-M Board Positions 

  • President - Helps members reach chapter goals and the goals of the honor society by presiding at meetings and by helping conduct the induction ceremony and election of officers for the following school year
  • Vice President - Assist the president to obtain the goals of the chapter. The Vice President may preside at meetings when the president must be absent and assists the president as needed. The vice presidents can also act as the chairperson for a variety of chapter projects
  • Secretary - Handles a lot of the chapter paperwork. The secretary writes letters for the chapter, keeps a record of who attends meetings, and takes meeting minutes
  • Historian - Maintains the record of all programs presented by the chapter (including pictures and newspaper articles), serves as the publicity chair (the person who gets the word out to the school and community about what your chapter is up to), and is responsible for putting together your chapter’s Chapter of the Year entry in http://www.menc.org/information/trim/news_chapteroftheyear.html.
Elections:
  • All nominations must be self-nominations
  • Elections will be at the May meeting from 2:30 – 3:30 in room 158
  • All Candidates must give a short election speech (no exceptions)
  • Campaigning is encouraged and campaign managers should follow all school rules regarding their campaign
  • Candidates must be a current member of the Tri-M honor society in good standing. New members who have been inducted this year may run for office
  • Officers are expected to attend all monthly chapter meetings and one additional officer meetings per month
  • Sign up to run for office on the Tri-M board (near room 156).
