Info for 9th Grade Students

As one of the longest-operating public high schools in the US, Towson High School has about 1,450 students and offers a wide variety of musical opportunities. About 45% of our student body is enrolled in a music class, which is a great indicator of the 5-star tradition of excellence of our school.

Classes

Incoming 9th graders to Towson High School are encouraged to enroll in one or more of the following:

  • Winds and Brass: Wind Ensemble 
  • Percussionists: Percussion Ensemble
  • Strings: Chamber Orchestra 
  • Vocalists: Chorale
  • Music and Audio Technology Course is a great class for all students that focuses on composing using the computer and the MIDI keyboard. Any student may sign up for music technology regardless of previous musical ability.

Ensembles and Auditions

There are a variety of Honors and GT ensembles, which are explained under Choir and Choral, Guitar, JazzOrchestra, and PercussionAuditions are typically held in the spring. Students are placed in classes by recommendation of their middle school teacher, high school teacher, or audition in some cases.
