About the Music Boosters

Our mission is to support and promote all THS vocal and instrumental groups in order to provide a program of excellence.

The Music Boosters meeting is the 1st Wednesday of every month, 7-8pm, October through June, THS room 158. Check the "Calendar of Events" link located in the menu bar to the left side of this page.

In order to provide financial support, we organize fundraisers and collect membership dues. Our volunteers provide their time and effort to deliver the best possible experience for our students. Through our initiatives we hope to contribute to the spirit and enthusiasm of all Towson students.

 

The fundraising events we conduct:

  • Annual Fall Social in October. This is for adults only
  • Basket Bingo in February. This is a lot of fun for the entire family
  • Holiday Wreath Sale in November.

What we provide:

  • Pay for the buses to transport the music students to "away" events
  • Provide volunteers for the Music Ensembles and THS Marching Generals events
  • Provide funds to purchase new equipment, repair instruments, tune pianos, and purchase music
  • Host guest clinicians and accompanists
  • Measure, fit, distribute, clean, and restock all rented concert attire and Marching Band uniforms
  • Financial aid for students who are unable to participate in many programs
  • Three college scholarships to outstanding seniors who plan to major/minor in music

Volunteers are Needed for (job descriptions at the bottom of this page):

  • Basket Bingo Chair (held in February)
  • Disney World Trip (held every other year in the even numbered years)
  • Concert and Marching Band Attire Coordinator (for fitting, distribution, collection)
  • Chaperons for Trips/Performances
  • Equipment Manager 
  • Fall Social Fundraiser Dance Chair (held in October)
  • Hospitality Committee
  • Middle School Field Trip Recruitment
  • Photographing events
  • Senior Scholarship Chair
  • Snacks
  • Spirit Wear Sales Coordinator
  • Transport equipment for performances
  • Walking escorts in the Marching Band parades
  • Webmaster
  • Wreath Sale Coordinator (conducted during November and December).

Elections are every April/May.  


Membership Fees
  • Yearly fees are $35 per child or $50 per family
  • Corporate memberships are available for $200. This gets your logo on THS Music website, major fundraising programs, and announcements during half-time at our home football games
  • Please make the check payable to "THS Music Boosters" and mail it to THS, 69 Cedar Ave, Towson, Md 21212.

Sample of Monthly Meetings and Events for the Boosters:


June Booster meeting - Usually held with the Mandatory Band Camp Meeting

  • Introduce new officers
  • Recruit for any committee chairs or helpers needed
  • Approve next year’s budget
  • Review Marching Camp details (like collecting all medical forms, emergency contact form, marching band uniform measurement form, communication form, financial aid forms).
  • Bring the members list up-to-date
  • Need to get all uniforms to cleaners
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

July – No booster meeting

  • Need Capital Campaign Committee meeting
  • Need Director’s wish list and Officer meeting to approve financial aid for Marching Band Camp
  • Need to make sure that DHMH application for Camp is received and sent
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

August

  • Marching Band Camp – pay all related expenses
  • Fit students for uniforms
  • Spirit Wear should be geared up, prices for coming year solidified (can be handing out at pick-up of camp)
  • Fall Social Chair should be geared up with donation forms and ticket sales forms, advertising starting (Towson Alumni Assoc. /Towson Times/etc.)
  • Updated Booster Membership form with fees (also made available for the summer mailing) 
  • Put forms on the website
  • The first booster meeting is usually ‘Meet the Music Night’ and is the last week of August. Need to broadcast the Fall Social, Spirit Wear, Booster Membership
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

September

  • No Booster meeting as it’s usually last week of August – may need to hold Officer meeting
  • Will need to hold Fall Social Committee Meeting
  • Have donation and ticket sale forms complete for Fall Social & start advertising and soliciting
  • Check on solidifying contract, date and time for Basket Bingo
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

October – Booster meeting focuses on:

  • Fall Social
  • Wreath Sale
  • Sign contract with Ramblewood Camp for the Marching Band camp for next August
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

November – Booster meeting focuses on:

  • Wreath Sales
  • Fit students for tuxes and dresses
  • On-going events
  • Holiday concerts
  • Need to make sure fittings and orders for dresses and tuxes are complete
  • Treasurer maintains contact with accountants
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

December – Booster meeting focuses on:

  • Wreath Pick-up
  • Holiday Concerts
  • Volunteers needed for Basket Bingo – fliers for Donations
  • Treasurer e-mails accountants on needed information for taxes
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

January – Booster meeting focuses on:

  • Basket Bingo – get donations/order baskets/put out advertising/fliers for tickets
  • Musicals or Performance Trip
  • Treasurer gets everything to accountants for taxes
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

February – Booster meeting focuses on:

  • Basket Bingo
  • All State and All County Solo & Ensemble Performances usually this month
  • Musicals or Performance Trip
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

March – Booster meeting focuses on:

  • More All-State Performances
  • BCPS assessments on music groups at all schools
  • Musicals or Performance Trip
  • Spring Concerts March or April
  • Prepare for Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

April - Booster meeting focuses on:

  • Recruiting for next year’s Officers
  • Making dates for separate open budget meeting in May
  • Musicals or Performance Trip
  • Start recruiting 8th graders for next year’s music programs
  • Start solidifying next year’s Fall Social contract
  • Disney World Trip (held every other year on even numbered years)

May – Booster meeting focuses on:

  • Election of new Officers
  • Open budget planning meeting
  • State Solo & Ensemble Performances
  • Lessons-learned meeting on Disney World Trip
