Disney World Trip (Spring Break)

Disney Email #1

Sent November 15 2017

Dear Parents and Students,

You are receiving this email because your son or daughter will be participating in the Towson High School Music Boosters 2018 Disney Trip on March 23rd through March 27th. We are in great shape for this trip with 182 students and 34 adults signed up on 4 coach busses! The trip is sold out!!

Attached to this email, you will find a copy of information that is being distributed to students in classes on Thursday and Friday this week. This is important trip information and I ask that you take a few minutes to review it. Click here for the attachment.

Students will also be receiving a detailed second payment “statement” (copied on pink paper) that contains all of the financial information that we have thus far. This would be the total cost of the trip less payments received and fundraising credits. The total due is listed at the bottom of the pink paper that students will be bringing home this week. The pink “statement” is not included in this email attachment.

Final balance is due on Friday, December 1st. Please return the pink “statement”  with a check to “Towson High School Music Boosters” Memo line: Disney 2018 (student’s first and last name).

We are currently in the midst of our second Disney trip fundraiser “wreath sale.” Reminder: orders and money for the wreath sale are due this Friday, November 17th. Questions regarding the wreath sale can be directed to Nancy Paulis, NPaulis@comcast.net.

Also, happening on Friday, November 17th is the delivery of our citrus sale fruit. 531 boxes of fruit will be delivered Friday morning, unloaded and sorted into 90 individual student orders. We have several parents who are coming in on Friday to assist with this process.  If you are willing to volunteer your time this Friday, please use this google form to sign up: https://goo.gl/forms/HAXOw2LvnWY3CoQf2. At this point we can probably use a few more parents during the morning between 8am and noon. Parents do not need to do any heavy lifting – unless you want to.

Finally, in the attached packet, you will see a link to the Park Tickets for Families online order form. I am including that same link here: https://goo.gl/forms/7AhulKfI0QOawSIj2. Family members who are flying down to Florida, separate from our official trip, may purchase Disney park tickets at the tax-free group rate. All of the information regarding this option can be found at the provided link.

It is going to be an amazing trip! I am so excited to be leading Towson High School for the 5th time! We have gone every two years since 2010!!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Mr. Olin

PS - (if you are still reading this far down in the email) We should know the assigned performance times for the Marching Band, Chorus, and Orchestra soon (not 6 weeks prior to the trip as mentioned in the attached packet item #11). When I spoke with Disney today, they said that we are assigned a time 4 months prior to our arrival. So we should know the performance times soon! We expect the Orchestra and Chorus to perform on Sunday, March 25th and the Marching Band to perform on Monday, March 26th – however these are only the times that we have requested – NOT the official assigned times from Mickey himself.

April 2017

Dear THS Music Students and Parents,

The Towson High School Music Boosters is sponsoring their 5th biennial performance trip to Disney World Resorts in Orlando, Florida. The dates of the trip are Friday, March 23, 2018 through Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Although the trip is about 11 months from now, we want to make families aware for planning purposes. Students who attend this trip will miss 2.5 days of school (Friday afternoon, Monday and Tuesday). Students will be responsible for completing make up work prior to the trip. Please double check your calendar.

The trip will be 5 days and 4 nights. The expected cost is $800 per student. About 50 parent chaperones will be needed and will be charged a reduced cost of $600 per chaperone. Additionally, 5 registered nurses will be needed (one per bus). If you are a parent that would consider participating in our trip as a nurse, please email Mr. Olin, jolin@bcps.org.

Fundraising: Two Music Boosters-sponsored fundraisers will occur for students who wish to reduce the cost of their trip. A citrus sale will be held in September and a wreath sale will be held in November. Additionally, financial aid can be requested once we return to school in the Fall.

Special Notes: As in past years, students enrolled in Choir, Orchestra and Marching Band will be invited on this trip. Students enrolled in Wind Ensemble (i.e., “Band” class) or Percussion Ensemble should join marching band if they wish to participate in the trip. The marching band sign up meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in the THS Auditorium at 7-8pm (student and parent must attend this meeting). Additionally, a small number of band students (wind, brass, and percussion) may be selected to perform with the orchestra if they are upperclassmen who participated in All-Honors or All-State.

Disney is strict on the number of students allowed to perform in the Orchestra (100 student maximum) and Choir (90-110 student maximum). There is no limit to the number of students in the Marching Band. Because of this, students enrolled in Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble should consider joining the marching band as their primary avenue for attending the trip.

Students who are subjected to Category 1, 2, or 3 disciplinary action from school administration as described in the BCPS Student Handbook may not be allowed to attend the trip with no refund given.
