Santee is a small town of approximately 1,000 people located on the south shore of Lake Marion in Santee Cooper Country. It currently attracts more than 100,000 visitors annually from all parts of the globe interested in the many recreational and ecotourism activities and attractions it has to offer. The fact that Interstate Highway I-95 passes through the town brings a steady flow of new visitors to the area.

Santee is in Orangeburg County, a rural region in the Midlands of South Carolina. While the town is located in a primarily agricultural region, it has now become a resort town of some note, famous for its many golf courses, fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, festivals, and other nature and outdoor recreation activities it shares across the lake with the historic town of Summerton.
