States of Matter

 

 

Instructional Level:  sixth grade

Standard 4

Standard 5

 

Background:

The students have been introduced to a unit involving States of Matter. In order t have more depth understanding of the states of matter, they need to know how matter changes, and what causes matter to change.

 

Title of Mini- Lesson: The use of technology to provide a multi sensory lesson on  the three states of matter.

 

Objectives:

v  The student will be able to classify the changes f the states of matter undergoes when given a description of the shape and volume.

v  The students will be able to describe the change of state of matter undergoes when given a name.

v  The students will be able to give examples of each change of state.

Materials:

v  Computer lab

v  Teacher tube video

v  Projector screen

Concepts:

 Changes of states of matter: melting, evaporation, condensation, freezing, sublimation, deposition.

 

Procedures:

Teacher: Alright, class. As you can see, we will be working with the computers today. Please observe the appropriate rules of conduct when using the computers. I would like everyone please sit and watch the states of matter video on teacher tube.

 

Closure:

Students will be given the opportunity to view the video as needed to ensure comprehension. I will also provide students with a variety of websites to help enhance their understanding on states of matter.

 

Assessment:

Upon completion, student will independently complete a crossword puzzle utilizing the concept just learned.
